Vhong Navarro Speaks Up About Attack in BGC Condo

Vhong Navarro, comedian-TV host in ABS-CBN’s Showtime, denied rape allegations and claimed that he was attacked upon arrival in his friend’s condo.

In an exclusive interview in the talk show “The Buzz,” Vhong claimed that the event was staged to blackmail him into giving money. “They want me to give them Php 1-million. From 200,000 it went up to 500,000 until it reached 1-million and eventually 2-million.”

He said that they forced him to sign a police blotter stating that he raped Deniece Milet Cornejo, the alleged rape victim and his friend who owns the Bonifacio Global City condo unit where he was attacked. ”It was indicated in the document that they won’t pursue the case, that they won’t file complaints because we have a deal. The police blotter was designed to protect them in case I tell the authorities the truth.”

Vhong also mentioned the name of the alleged mastermind, Cedric Lee, who apparently, led the group who attacked him. “…I recognized him (when he went into the room). At first, he (Cedric) introduced himself and then he tied up my hands and feet. He shoved me to the floor and started hitting me.”

Ethel Booba speaks up about Willie

Ethel Booba finally broke her silence on her feud with Wowowillie host Willie Revillame, who castigated her and fellow host Ate Gay on national TV over the results of a costume contest on the said show. “Hindi di ko siya (Willie) sinigawan,” she said. Asked who is lying, she or Willie, Ethel answered, “Siya (Willie). Witness ang mga staff at si Ate Gay. Alam nilang walang sigawan na nangyari,” Ethel said in an interview after the presscon of her new reality show, TV5’s “Boracay Bodies.”

Ethel admitted she never expected Willie to scold her publicly. She reported for work, feeling ready to call it quits. Ethel said she just wanted to just go abroad. “Feeling ko okay kami,” she recalls.“Sabi pa nga niya, ‘wag kang mag-alala, ipagtatanggol kita.” Ethel was referring to Willie’s reaction regarding negative Twitter messages the former showed to him the day he scolded her and Ate Gay.

Ethel also recalled that Willie raised his voice after she told him Ate Gay felt hurt over the results of the costume contest, where he chose the show’s choreographer Anna Feliciano as the winner. “Noong sinabi ko kay Willie na nagtatampo si Ate Gay , sabi niya, ‘Anong problema?’ Tumaas ang boses niya. Nagmura siya at sinabing, ‘Ang liit na bagay. Yan lang. Kung hindi ninyo gusto ang patakaran, lumayas kayo. Get out!”

Ethel was understandably shocked. She also denied that she confronted Willie in the dressing room over the matter. “Maling mali ang statement niya na sinugod namin siya sa dressing room. Teritoryo niya yon. Di totoo yon.”

Success and Willie. Ethel felt success has gotten the better of Willie. Ethel also notes that Willie has been sour since “Wowowillie’s” lost viewers to rival show, “It’s Showtime.” She added that she was controlling her feelings since Day One, when Willie blamed her for the brown-out that happened at the presscon of “Wowowillie.” At this point, Ethel still feels hurt and is not ready to patch things up with Willie.

Meanwhile, there is no bad blood between her and Ate Gay, who has rejoined “Wowowillie.” Ethel knows her friend just wants to make a career move and create a niche on TV5.
“Nag-usap na kami,” Ethel reveals.

Ethel is “The Diva” on “Boracay Bodies,” which premieres on TV5 on April 6, 9 p.m. Joining her are Brent Javier (“The Boy Next Door”), Victor Silayan (“The Lover Boy”), Luke Jickain (“The Wise Man”), Krista Miller (“Mysterious Girl”), Joross Gamboa (“The Jester”), Wendy Valdez (“The Righteous”) and Helga Krapf (“The Sweet Girl”). Phoemela Baranda hosts.

Ara Mina and Christine Reyes Reconciles

On April 1, both sisters posted photos on Twitter and Instagram showing them together and looking happy. Ara’s photo with her younger sister was captioned, “Just like the rainbow after the rain. A good thing will always happen after you experience the pain…. #sisters #blood #forgiveness #happiness #reunited.”

‘Gift of healing’. A very happy-looking Cristine also posted a photo of her arm around her sister, with the caption, “With the gift of listening comes the gift of healing…. #appointedtime #blood #forgiveness #sisters #happiness.”  The estranged siblings got together during a family gathering, a year since their rift. It can be recalled that Ara filed a libel and grave coercion suit against her younger sister last April 2012 “to teach her a lesson.” Cristine posted their family picture and captioned it with, “Happiness. Love. Family.” Ara posted the same photo with the caption, “Happy together again.”

A prank? Ironically, the photos went online during April Fool’s Day, which led some to think their reconciliation was just a prank. However, the photos also belied the suspicion, with Ara thanking her Twitter followers who sent well wishes her way. Photos by both sisters have been liked by followers up to 4,000 times.

Sunshine Cruz, cover for FHM’s April ish

When showbiz couples break up, they’re no different from you and me—except for the fact that the public gets to know all the dirty details of their relationship. That’s exactly what happened to Sunshine Cruz and Cesar Montano.

In January this year, actress Cruz claimed that she discovered that a number of her gifts to her husband (which included an iPhone 5) were in the hands of Krista Miller. Miller is Montano’s co-star in the film Alfredo S. Lim: The Untold Story. Cruz publicized her discovery via Instagram. Shortly after that, it was reported that she and Montano were estranged.

Cruz and Montano have been married for 13 years and have three daughters. Cruz is 35, while Montano is 50. When she married him, she left behind her showbiz engagements, only taking on bit roles from time to time. She concentrated on being his wife.

Flying solo or still “up in the air”?

Alas, Cruz has said in more recent reports that she now considers herself a single mother. Though she didn’t directly say that she was giving up on Montano, pundits concluded that their marriage was practically over. Besides, it’s been said that Cruz and Montano are no longer living under one roof. Then again, there are also reports that say they’re back together.

Then, on March 26, FHM Philippines announced that Cruz was the cover girl of their April 2013 issue. She looks stunning in a dark one-shoulder swimsuit. This fueled the rumors that the Cruz and Montano were really calling it quits this time. Maybe only time will reveal the real score between them.

Heart Evangelista, in love and war

Actress’ mother Cecile Ongpauco, breaks her silence demanding an apology from Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero for being allegedly disrespectful and arrogant and for “manipulating” her daughter into “going against the family.”

Mrs. Ongpauco says her daughter is a “victim,” she said, and called out to Escudero again to “leave my daughter alone.”

In an interview with the Inquirer Wednesday afternoon, Ongpauco said Evangelista, the youngest of her six children, left her (the actress’) condominium unit in Makati City. The Ongpaucos have their own unit in the same building.

“We don’t know where she is,” the actress’ mother said, adding that before the misunderstanding, she had a “beautiful relationship” with her daughter.

“We were together almost every day. She would cook breakfast for me and her dad (Rey Ongpauco). We were OK,” she said. Mother and daughter were last seen together when the actress renewed her talent contract with GMA 7 early this month.

Heart’s parents are very worried since they believed thaat their daughter is“still young and innocent, overprotected as a child.”

Evangelista (Heart) “does not have a mature mind and still thinks like a young girl,” the mother said. “She is easily swayed by people who prey on her insecurities and lack of confidence.”

Ongpauco added: “My husband decided to come forward and discuss the issue because he can no longer take it. This is the first time he’s speaking publicly in all the years that Heart has been in show business.”

Mr. Ongpauco in an interview with TV Patrol said that he didin’t find anything good where the senator is considered aside from their reasons: Escudero’s inability to give Evangelista a church wedding since he could not yet remarry in church after being annulled to singer Christine Flores, was also an alcoholic.

Heart’s father pleaded that before anyone, she should think of her family first.

Meanwhile, Chiz’s response in a text message to the Inquirer on Tuesday, the senator said in Filipino: “It is enough to say at this time, that, even though I am slightly involved, as much as possible, I don’t want to meddle in the misunderstandings between parents and their daughter … I am not part of show biz. I don’t combine work with my personal life and I don’t allow anything personal to affect my job.”

The actress supported Escudero, saying, “Chiz and his family have shown me nothing but goodness and affection. There is no reason for them to get dragged into this.”

The actress added this was not the first time her parents had publicly showed their disapproval with her relationships.

She said she “gave in” to their wish for her to leave actor Jericho Rosales because “I wanted them to be happy … but now I believe I already have the right to decide how to live my life, who to love and to be with.”

Mariel Rodriguez’s realizations

Experience, they say, is the best teacher. And Mariel Rodriguez has learned a lot about herself and about marriage from the hullabaloo that her jealous fit over husband Robin Padilla’s love scene with co-star Kris Aquino created. “I learned that hindi dapat masyadong impulsive,” she told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! in-between segments of TV5’s “Wowowillie,” which she hosts with main man Wilie Revillame, Grace Lee, Camille Villar and Arci Munoz.

Sometimes, without you knowing it, Mariel explains, your actions are already affecting a lot of people. Your emotions just carry you away and yout blurt out what you feel. “E ako , transparent. I express what I feel,” she goes on. That jealous fit, Mariel adds, has nothing to do with Kris, or even their “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” co-star nAnne Curtis, both of whom vowed never to get intimate with Robin on screen.

It’s all about how Mariel felt like a wronged wife who thought what she saw on TV was something that should happen only between her and her husband. “It was just shocking,” she recalls.

Not controlling Mariel wants to make it clear that she’s not the controlling type who wants to dictate on her husband. “To those who think na makitid ang utak ko, I say, ‘Hello! Robin and I have been married almost three years and isang beses lang ako nag react. I don’t even look at his scripts .”

Other people’s opinions about her, states Mariel, don’t count. But Robin’s attitude towards her does. And Mariel realizes how lucky she is because Robin takes her for what she is. “I realize all the more that marriage is for better or for worse. Tanggap ni Robin ang topak ko. He loves me for what I am.”

In return, Robin has Mariel’s total obedience in things big and small. She dropped by the recent Philippine Entertaiment Portal (PEP) sixth anniversary celebration and the launch of its PEP List 2012 awards to represent Robin, who can’t make it that day.

Mariel flew with Robin to Tawi-Tawi, where she embarked on a humanitarian mission in the midst of the Sabah controversy. She knew the risks involved, but Mariel didn’t care. All she knew was that Mindanao is close to her husband’s heart, and she must support him. “He laid down his cards before we got married,” recalls Mariel.

Robin didn’t force her to go to Tawi-Tawi. He even asked if she’s up to it. Mariel didn’t regret what she did. Seeing the happiness in our Muslim brothers’ eyes when they saw her was more than enough.

New purpose “Kahit may pinagdadaanan sila, our mere presence made them happy. Blessed ako kasi may purpose ako sa mundo, kahit for a while. That purpose is to make people happy, something we do here in ‘Wowowillie.’ But this one goes even deeper.” Mariel would have gone to Jolo on the day of this interview, but the pilots were suddenly barred from flying there.

Mariel would have loved playing her new role: that of a peace ambassador of sorts. “Hindi mo naman kailangan ng title para sa ano mang gusto mong gawin,” she smiles. This, and many other things she’s learning as Robin’s wife, are a wake-up call for Mariel. Now, she’s not just a wife. She’s also a peace negotiator, a stepmom, etc.

“Robin is spontaneous,” she observes. “Bukas, sasabihin niya na punta kami dito. You have to ride along.”
That’s just fine with Mariel, who admits being impulsive herself. The two are a perfect match. And everything – even their decision to postpone having a child of their own – is falling into place.

Now, Mariel can’t wait for her next adventure with the man she loves and will continue to love – no matter what others think or say.

Eddie Garcia and Nora Aunor bag acting honors at 7th Asian Film Awards

The Philippines won big at the 7th Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong, where Eddie Garcia and Nora Aunor received top honors, including Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.

Eddie went on stage to accept his award for  playing an ageing gay who takes care of a stray dog in  Jun Lana’s “Bwakaw.”  He also won the People’s Choice Best Actor Award, determined through a voting poll in Yahoo! Movies.

He bested four award-winning Asian actors, namely  South Korea’s Choi Min Sik (Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time), Hong Kong’s Tony Leung (Cold War), China’s Liu Ye (The Last Supper) and Taiwan’s Joseph Chang (GF*BF).

Nora was also there to receive her award for playing a barren Badjao midwife in Brillante Mendoza’s “Thy Womb.” She bested four other actresses, namely South Korea’s Choi Min Soo (Pieta), Afghanistan’s Golshifteh Farahani (The Patience Stone), Taiwan’s Gwen Lun-Mei (GF*BF) and China’s Hao Lei (Mystery).

Nora was nominated in the People’s Choice Best Actress category, but she lost to  Choi Min Soo. Eugene Domingo, last year’s winner, presented the award.

The awards night was held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre  on Monday, March 18.

John Lloyd tears up on The Buzz

John Lloyd Cruz may already be one of this generation’s brightest stars but the actor, it turns out, sometimes doesn’t think highly of himself.

During his guesting on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Cruz turned emotional after watching a recorded video of his past and present leading ladies, who only had good words to say about him. “Ang bigat masyado [nung video]. Mare-realize mo na ganun pala iyon? Minsan kasi iba ang tingin mo sa sarili mo, tapos sa ibang tao pala, okay ka naman pala. Ang galing. It makes you appreciate yourself a lot better,” he said with tears in his eyes.

Cruz said he is deeply grateful to Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga, Angel Locsin and Sarah Geronimo for making him realize that he has done something right in his life. “Ang dami diyan na tunay na mahuhusay at tunay na dedicated at talagang magaling. Madalas nahihiya ako kapag nakakasama ko ‘yung talagang mga tinitingala sa larangan ng pag-arte at sa standards mo, sila talaga ‘yung magaling. But minsan kapag sinasabi ng ibang tao, magpapasalamat ka na lang. Salamat po,” he said.

Working with Sarah. Meanwhile, Cruz said he is already excited for his fans to see his latest movie with Geronimo titled “It Takes A Man and A Woman.” This is the third — and reportedly the last — installment of their big screen team-up. “Iba na kasi ito eh. Iba na ang take off ng story. You have to watch it. Hindi ko rin maikwento. If you’ve seen the trailer, maiintindihan niyo. Mags-start siya na ‘yung love story ni Miggy and Laida, natapos,” he said.

Recalling when they did “A Very Special Love” five years ago, Cruz said his team-up with Geronimo is just proof that some of the best things that happen in life are not actually planned. “It was parang by accident eh. Hindi sinasadya. If I remember it correctly, hindi naman talaga iyon ang dapat na gagawin ko. I was supposed to do a movie with another leading lady tapos hindi puwede so sabi nila ito na lang, gawin natin ito,” he said.

“Kami ni Sarah since day one, since that ‘MMK’ episode hanggang ngayon, naniniwala ako na we will always have this very special connection. Hindi siya chemistry eh. It’s a gift that goes beyond the chemistry. Iba ‘yung sa amin ni Bea, iba y’ung sa amin ni Angel, ni Toni. Iba ‘to eh,” he added.

“It Takes A Man and A Woman” is set to be released in theaters nationwide on March 30.

Hayden Kho & Vicki Belo, taking it slow this time

Hayden Kho remains coy about the status of his relationship with celebrity doctor and ex-girlfriend Vicki Belo. Recent sightings of the two together in various events and functions have made people and the press speculate that they’re back in each other’s arms after their controversial break-up February of last year.

However, the returning actor said he and Vicki are “taking it slow.” “I can say na naaayos na. But gaya ng sabi niya, we’re really taking it slow. I agree with her na it’s really unhealthy for us to put a label on our relationship,” Hayden told the entertainment media in an interview at the 29th Star Awards for Movies on Sunday, March 10.

Hayden added that they’re happy with whatever they have right now. “It’s a process,” he said. “We’ve been going out as friends—as really close friends,” “The Bride and The Love” star explained. “It’s just enjoying each other’s company. We’re taking it one step at a time.”

‘It’s private’. Asked if they’re in love again with each other, he answered: “Yung mga ganyan, it’s private. It’s personal.”

Despite being together as a couple and as friends for quite some time, Hayden still finds Vicki’s company “delightful.” “I think sa almost eight years na kaming magkasama, I think may mga discoveries pa rin kami sa isa’t isa. Kasi kahit matagal na kaming magkasama, meron pa rin kaming napaguusapang bago,” Hayden shared.
