Joross Gamboa Won A Best Supporting Actor In The 8th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival

In an Interviewed to Joross Gamboa before the awards night of the 8th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on July 29, Sunday,in Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo of the Cultural Display Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Joross was won for Best Supporting Actor in New Breed section for her performance in Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino directed by of the amateur filmmaker Lem Lorca.

But when he call his name as a winner and give a speech, Joross  cannot believe that he win.

As in previous interview, in the observation of the viewer Joross take seriously his role in that film, based on the performance in film, he says: “Baka nagulat lang sa akin dahil… binababoy lang [ako sa pelikula], walang pakialam…”

Joross played as a Intoy Syokoy a childhood friend of JM de Guzman, LJ Reyes, and Arnold Reyes. Among the marginalized sector, an out-of-school youth, motherless, homeless and apparent patapon, young man who infected with an STD.

“First time ko lang mag-Cinemalaya talaga. Feeling ko, best dry hair ako dito! Yung buhok kong dry, napakinabangan!” pakuwelang sambit ni Joross habang natatawa.

CITATION. During the awarding rites of Cinemalaya, Joross mention again feelings about the unexpected victory of acting award.

“Hindi ko ine-expect na mananalo ako, e,” sabi niya.

“Ang ine-expect ko lang, mananalo akong best dry hair! Buti na lang…

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Cinemalaya!”

Joross thanked God, the constitutes of the Cinemalaya 2012, and the executive producers of Intoy Syokoy namely Boy So, Robert Bernardo, and Boy Abunda.

“Kay Tito Boy [Abunda], sa aming producer na nagtiwala sa akin… alam niya, mangungulit lang ako sa set. Sabi niya, ‘Magulo lang ‘yang si Joross…’

“Pero buti, binigyan niya ako ng chance para patunayan na kaya ko ring magseryoso.”

Then he thanked his director, Lem Lorca, the staff and crew of the indie film entry.

“Kay JM, sa aking kapatid, maraming-maraming salamat po.

“Papalagyan ko na lang po ito ng ilaw… gagawin kong lampshade!” biro pa ni Joross sa hawak na Balanghai trophy.

“Thank you po. Ang ganda po! Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat!”

TOP-GROSSING ENTRY. One of the top-grossing entries in this years of the Cinemalaya, Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino.

If he did not win an award, Joross are still happy because for him, the honor it’s only a “bonus.”

“Basta kami, successful yung pelikula. Kahit anong mangyari, bonus na lang yung award.

“Masaya… lahat kami parang magkakapatid dito,” pagtukoy pa ni Joross hinggil sa naging samahan ng co-stars niya sa pelikula

“Sobrang okay, sobrang saya namin. Lahat kasi kami, nagsimulang magkakaibigan.

“Open kaming lahat for suggestions. Nagkukumustahan kung ano’ng nararamdaman.

“Kami nina Direk [Lem], lagi kaming nagte-text-an tungkol sa mga feedback na galing sa tao. Sobrang thankful kaming lahat.”

Talent fee is not a  issues when he accept the indie project.

“Hindi namin pinag-usapan. Kapag sa indie, walang pinag-uusapang talent fee… yung passion mo lang talaga.”

About his acting in films, Joross was also happy to the feedback of viewers and friends in the industry.

“First time ko ding nagseryoso… talagang… aktor daw!” natawa si Joross. “Dati kasi, nagku-comedy ako.

“Maraming nagku-congratulate din. Siyempre, masayang-masaya ang feeling.

“Lahat talaga kami, isinabuhay naming lahat [ang mga papel namin]. Yung kay JM, romantic. Ibang-iba naman kaming character dito.

“Sa akin, okay… ngayon lang ako namumulat sa mga ganito.”
