Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon wins 1st runner-up in Miss Universe 2012; Miss USA wins the crown.

Miss USA Olivia Culpo wins the title of Miss Universe 2012.

The pageant happened at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas this year and the hosts are Andy Cohen and Giuliana Rancic.

The theme of the opening production number of the 89 candidates from different part of the world was Christmas Inspired.

Representatives from Venezuela, Turkey, France, Peru, Russia, Mexico, Poland, Hungary, South Africa, Philippines, Croatia, Brazil, Kosovo, Australia, India, and USA enter Top 16.

After this, the swimsuit competition follows where the “cobra walk” of Janine marked.

Follows to this was the announcement of the Top 10: Australia, Russia, Brazil, France, Venezuela, USA, Hungary, South Africa, Mexico, and the last to mentioned Philippines.

The short video clip of the Final 16 was shown in the television.

In here, Miss Philippines stated: “For me, being here is a battle of a lifetime.”

“Filipinos really love Miss Universe and they’re like, hoping and anticipating and very into it.”

“If I win, it’s like I gave the Filipinos hope, happiness, and Christmas gift.”

Next was the evening gown competition where Janine wore a sky blue, electric-pleated, sheer gown.

After this, Top 5 was announced.

In no particular order, first to call was Miss Venezuela Irene Esser, next Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon, then Miss Australia Renae Ayris, Miss USA Olivia Culpo, and Miss Brazil Gabriela Markus.

In the question and answer portion, Nigel Barker read the question which came from Twitter, for Janine.

The question was, “Do you believe that speaking English should be prerequisite for Miss Universe?”

Her answer, “For me, being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language.”

“It’s about being able to influence and inspire other people.”

“So whatever language you have, if you have a heart to serve and a strong mind to show people, then you can be Miss Universe.”

Many admire Miss Philippines’ answer so much that they conclude she can get the crown.

But the jury chose Miss USA Olivia Culpo, and Janine as the 1st runner-up.
