8 Official MMFF Entries revealed

Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is celebrating its 36th-year of bringing high-quality and amazing films from different movie productions. This year, only eight films compete with each other for the annual MMFF awards and box-office ranking.

First on the list is Ai Ai De Las Alas’s Ang Tanging Ina Mo Rin (Last Na ‘To) under Star Cinema. It is directed by Wenn Deramas. Other cast includes Nikki Valdez, Eugene Domingo, Marvin Agustin, and much more. Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla and Vic Sotto joined forces in the movie Agimat ni Enteng that produced by GMA Films, M-Zet, APT, and Imus Productions. Cinemedia’s Dalaw, a horror-thriller film casts Kris Aquino and Diether Ocampo. A Maricel Soriano classic revives again in the movie Super Inday at ang Magic Bibe starring Jake Cuenca, Marian Rivera, Pokwang and John Lapuz. The longest movie series in the filmfest lives on entitled Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12 which features Andi Eigenmann, Shaina Magdayao, Rayver Cruz, and Carla Abellana. Comedy King Dolphy has two entries in the filmfest. First is Father Jejemon under RVQ Productions with Maja Salvador. And second is Rosario under Cine Mabuhay with Jennylyn Mercado and Sid Lucero. And last but not the least, Star Cinema’s 3D animation film RPG features voices of Aga Muhlach, Zaijan Jaranilla, Vhong Navarro and other stars.

When I looked at the official list of MMFF, I expect that the three films namely Ang Tanging Ina (Last Na ‘To), Agimat ni Enteng and Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12 will randomly compete on top three box-office slots in the filmfest. But, of course, the importance of this filmfest is the continuous success of Philippine movie industry in despite of several international films are premiering within the year.

Harry Potter 7 Part 1 in Philippine theaters 18 November

Two weeks to go, I’m going to watch the first part of epic finale film: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Daniel Radcliffe plays the main character Harry Potter with Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. It was based from the novel written by Joanne Kathleen Rowling. The movie will be divided in two parts: the first part will premiere internationally on 18th November, except United States and United Kingdom which will premiere on the following day (19th November to be exact).

I have Rowling’s 7th Harry Potter book, but I haven’t read it yet. But, I am a fan of this movie since the premiere of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in November 2001 because the film has amazing audio-visual effects plus its costume, its cast, and the amazing Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Not only Harry Potter is my favorite character, but also Professor Hagrid. Professor Hagrid, played by Robbie Coltrane, is teacher and close friend of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

The 7th film hasn’t premiered yet, but as of now, my most favorite Harry Potter series is the Goblet of Fire because a batch of new cast was featured including Brendan Gleeson as Professor “Mad-Eye” Moody, Katie Leung as Cho Chang, Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory, Stanislav Ianevski as Viktor Krum, and Clémence Poésy as Fleur Delacour. The Triwizard Tournament and Yule Ball are my favorite parts of this film.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in 2D and IMAX theaters on 18 November.

MYX: A decade of different genre of music

In celebration of MYX’s 10th year anniversary of music, the most anticipated and biggest “MYX Mo” concert of the year is on fire.  As a treat for avid MYX viewers like me, limited edition “I ♥ MYX” shirts are already available exclusively at Boys Teens Wear Section of SM Department stores. If the consumer buys the “I ♥ MYX” white shirt for PhP 399.75, it entitles him/her to get a gold section ticket. If he/she buys the ”I ♥ MYX” red shirt for PhP 299.75, he/she receive a silver section ticket. For bronze ticket, the MYX Mag’s ”I ♥ MYX” Special Collector’s issue is also available exclusively at nearest 7-Eleven stores around Metro Manila.

Let’s take back memories of MYX. From the VJs to its shows. Heart Evangelista, Ala Paredes, Luis Manzano, and Franco Mabanta were the first batch of MYX VJs. Back then, VJ Heart was one of my favorite MYX VJs. She hosted My MYX before and she read my request that I sent few years ago. I requested Carol Banawa’s music video “Stay” because it’s one of my favorite songs. I was jumping for joy when she read it exactly on Mother’s Day. Maybe it was a special gift for my mom. It’s really unexpected.

Few years had passed, a lot were called but only few are chosen in annual MYX VJ search. Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition ex-housemate Robi Domingo, commercial model Sanya Smith, Champ Lui Pio’s brother Chino Lui Pio and Martin Nievera’s son Robin Nievera were few of the MYX VJ Search winners. My favorite MYX VJs as of now are VJs Bianca Roque, Nikki Gil, Iya Villania, and Luis Manzano. My favorite former MYX VJs, on the other hand, were Heart Evangelista, Karel Marquez, Igi Guerrero, Nel Gomez, Andrei Felix and Mica Froilan.

My favorite MYX shows are Mellow MYX, My MYX, Pop MYX, MYX News, and Asia MYX. Mellow MYX plays sweet and romantic music videos that I definitely love. It is hosted by VJ Nikki Gil. My MYX reads requests and plays requested music videos from their viewers thru e-mail, text, and snail mail. Pop MYX plays international pop music from USA to Korea. MYX News updates the latest entertainment news regarding music, movies, and artists. Asia MYX plays Asian music from Korea, Japan, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan.

But still, I’m hoping that they will play music videos from Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit. A lot of Filipino Fahrenheit fans are already requesting, but unfortunately MYX didn’t play Fahrenheit music videos. If I’m going to be a MYX VJ, I will ask its channel head to host a new show. It will be titled either Pop MYX: MandoPop Edition or MYX  Aiyo! Pop MYX: MandoPop Edition will play music videos from different Mandarin artists. On the other hand, MYX Aiyo will play music videos from Taiwan. And I will gonna play not only Chinese pop but also Fahrenheit music videos.

I wish MYX more power, more success, more awesome music videos to play and another decade to come.

The MYX Mo 2010 concert will be on 18 November, Thursday at SM Mall of Asia Open Concert Grounds, Pasay City. The pre-show is at around 5pm to be followed by its show proper at  7pm. The bands and artists that will be performing are Kyla, Sandwich, Callalily, Gloc 9, Sponge Cola, Parokya ni Edgar, and so much more. Don’t forget to wear ”I ♥ MYX” shirts!

ABS-CBN new Koreanovela “Perfect Match” starts on Monday

After ABS-CBN aired the latest Koreanovela “He’s Beautiful”, another series to be watch out for tweens, teens, and young adults called “Perfect Match”. Also known as “Personal Taste” and “Personal Preference”, it is a comedy-romance drama which stars Boys Over Flowers’s Lee Min Ho (aka Goo Jun Pyo) and Son Ye Jin. It has 16 episodes.

The synopsis of this Korean drama is about Gino Jeon, a budding architect, is a straight guy who pretends to be gay in order to become a roommate to Julienne Park, the owner of a mysterious house that has never been opened to outsiders. His hobbies include organization and ironing, and he’s known for his stoic poker face. He’s a stickler for cleanliness, but he also has a talent for figuring out women’s feelings. Julienne is very trusting even though she has a habit of being betrayed. However that doesn’t stop her from giving people the benefit of doubt and Gino is no different. How will Julienne react when she finds out that her gay roommate is not actually gay at all and that he has fallen for her?

Although the drama is still airing in Taiwan on FTV network and Taiwanese fans of Korean dramas are crazy watching this drama, it’s turn for Filipinos to enjoy watching it. I haven’t watched it yet online, but when I saw its trailer, it’s a nice drama to watch. I’d rather to watch it online than on TV because it has no cut parts. ABS-CBN and other networks always edit unnecessary parts when they air Asianovelas that’s why sometimes viewers who already watched it online are so disappointed and maybe they will not rather watch on TV.

The Koreanovela “Perfect Match” will premiere on Monday, replacing ABS-CBN Primetime drama “Magkaribal“.

Philippine Gloomy Halloween 2010: Things to do this weekend

I’m thinking what to do this weekend. Something creepy. Something scary. Something gloomy.

Aaron Yan in Gloomy Salad Days

Besides of scanning my personal laptop to check if it has viruses, I watch Taiwanese series “Gloomy Salad Days” via viikii.net site. I don’t understand Mandarin, so this site has English subtitles on the uploaded video. Translators of that site type English phrases online so that international viewers will understand. The series airs 2 episodes back to back every week. Fahrenheit member Aaron Yan is one of the main casts. It’s not because of Aaron that I’m watching this series, but the plot itself. I’m already at 7th episode part 2. I will watch its entire 7th episode tomorrow before I scan my laptop. I must first update my ant-virus program before scanning.

I have also a series of Philippine Ghost Stories. It is a book containing Filipino creepy and scary stories based from the people’s experiences. My favorite ghost story is the Bloody Mary. It was located at girls’ comfort room, education building, UST Manila. Reading that book

Watching suspense movies is also an option. Well, I’m not fond of watching movies. But the best Philippine horror film is “Shake, Rattle & Roll” sequels. “The Ring” is the best international suspense movie featuring the famous “Sadako”. Maybe I should watch that again.

Kids go house-to-house, wearing creepy and fantasy, costumes and say “Treat or Trick!” Families give chocolates and candies to these kids. Well, I missed my childhood days which during Halloween I was with my neighbor friends, wearing a fairy costume, received a bunch of candies, and say “Treat or Trick!”

Happy Halloween everyone!!!

Showtime: A year full of unforgettable moments

It’s been a year when Showtime was aired in ABS-CBN. I just started watching it since October 26. It was Monday. At first, the show is so entertaining and funny because of Vice Ganda’s punchlines. Singer/actress Karylle posted a Yahoo! blog about the top 10 Showtime moments with the help of her followers. It’s my time to post what’s my top 10 unforgettable moments why I enjoyed watching Showtime.

1. Vice Ganda’s “May Nagtext”

I always laugh when Vice Ganda often gives punchlines as a unevictable hurado. His famous line “May Nagtext” makes me enjoy watching the show. That phrase was followed by Gladys Reyes when she became a hurado and made her own a lot of versions like “May nagtweet“, “May nagplurk”, etc.

2. Vice Ganda vs. Gladys Reyes

These two hurados were always doing the “Agua Bendita” impromptu script — Vice Ganda as Agua and Gladys Reyes as Bendita. It was turned funny by again throwing punchlines with each other.

3. Jhong Hilario’s daily dance moves

Jhong Hilario, a member of the dancegroup Streetboys, always showcases his dance moves and stunts. Before he comments on the first contestant, he will first give a sample performance (and even statement t-shirts) for Showtime’s madlang pipol.

4. Showtime’s 1st Grand Finals

The wildcard group XB GenSan won the first Showtime grand finals. They’re deserving to be a Showtime champion.

5. Vice Ganda started his “Party party

I saw Vice Ganda’s tweets with these words: “PARTY PARTY”. I never though that he started it on the show. I watched Showtime when I don’t have classes and indeed that “Party party” was also fun and make me so hyper!

6. Ryan Bang’s funny comments

Ryan Bang, 2nd Teen Big placer from Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash, is the funniest hurado I’d ever seen. Even though his Filipino is not so good, he makes me laugh because of what he said everytime. He’s my most favorite hurado and, of course, his unique dance moves is so funny!

7. Showtime’s MTCRB suspension

I was so sad when MTRCB suspended Showtime because of Rosanna Roces’s comments regarding teachers. But the alternative show called “Magpasikat” premiered. The concept of “Magpasikat” is the same as Showtime, but its contestants are celebrities. I also enjoyed this show for quite short airing span of time.

8. International artists visit Showtime and showcase their talents

Few international artists visit the show and showcase their talents like Katy Perry. I hope more international artists especially Asian artists will also perform on the show.

9. Anne’s opening shoutout: “Madlang pipol! I wanna hear your beautiful voice”

I always love her opening shoutout to madlang pipol. She dances and says the show’s name at the end, then madlang pipol follows her.

10.  Vice Ganda’s accidental and inspiring performances

I will never forget Vice Ganda’s performances. First he showcased his talent but accidentally when he was performing, he hit his head on the floor. Another performance was on his birthday that he dedicated his performance to his mother. I was so touched and cried at the same time.

Studio 23 will relive and again air Fahrenheit dramas next year

Studio 23 is known for re-airing and premiering local, Asian, and American programs. It is the sister network of ABS-CBN.

The network relived the Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit by re-airing the drama Romantic Princess (Gong Zhu Xiao Mei) and premiering the action drama KO One (Zhong Ji Yi Ban) this year. Fahrenheit is made up of handsome guys namely Jiro Wang, Wu Chun, Aaron Yan, and Calvin Chen. They celebrated their fifth year as a group in Taiwanese entertainment industry this year. Each continues to grow as individual actors and hosts from different Taiwanese shows.

ABS-CBN introduced Fahrenheit last March 2008 when they aired Hana Kimi. Wu Chun and Jiro Wang starred in the said drama as Brian and Wesley respectively with Ella Chen of the Taiwanese girl group SHE as Joey/Joelle. The drama was followed by another Taiwanese drama Romantic Princess, which both Wu Chun and Calvin Chen visited Philippines last July 2008 to do promotional tours of their drama.

The Taiwanese boyband just released their latest album called “Super Hot”. It shows a sexier and more mature Fahrenheit. It has 10 tracks including their recent songs “Super Hot”, “Cherish Your Heartaches”, “Sexy Girl”, and “Guardian Star”. Fahrenheit will release gaiban (aka CD+DVD) version with 2011 calendar.

So, what’s up with them?

Jiro Wang started hosting a variety show in Taiwan called “Super King” with former 5566 members Tony Sun and Zax Wang. He took a rest for a while in doing Taiwan idol dramas to focus on hosting. Momo Love (Tao Hua Xiao Mei) was his latest drama.

Wu Chun continues his acting career in television with his latest dramas. He is shooting new drama called “Absolute Boyfriend” with Korean actress Goo Hye Sun. Prior to this drama, he finished shooting “Sunshine Angel” with Rainie Yang which will be aired next year in Taiwan television.

A different Aaron Yan will be seen in his latest drama “Gloomy Salad Days”. He revealed that he will be having a bed scene with his leading lady in the drama, Serena Fang.

Calvin Chen’s dream being a host already came true. He is currently hosting MTV Japan and Korea Music Craze (MTV Ri Han Yin Yue Feng). He will also be seen in his latest drama “Love Buffet” with Aaron Yan soon.

The X-Family premieres soon on Studio 23

After Studio 23 finished airing KO One, a lot of fans were demanding to air the drama’s sequel called “The X-Family”. The program manager of the network confirmed that they will air it soon. I was so happy and yet put it on my Facebook wall status. This is a good news not only for Taiwanese drama addicts but also for Fahrenheit fans as well. Even though I already watched the series online, I will surely watch it on Studio 23. Other Taiwanese dramas will also air in the said network, including Hana Kimi and Hot Shot.

Fahrenheit fans continue posting their petitions in ABS-CBN Facebook fan page to air other dramas of Fahrenheit. Still, ABS-CBN keeps reading these petitions and trying their best to get the rights to air these dramas. I know it’s a long process, from the production to channel where the drama was aired and license to air, but at least ABS-CBN took effort to give their avid viewers best  and latest Taiwanese dramas.

While fans are waiting, ABS-CBN currently airs the Taiwanese drama “Down With Love” starring Meteor Garden’s Jerry Yan and Hana Kimi’s Ella Chen. They will also air former F4 member Van Ness Wu’s “Autumn’s Concerto”. ABS-CBN is indeed the first and true home of Asianovelas.

Magkaribal: A Fashionable Finale

“You want war? I’ll give you war.”

This is indeed one of the most memorable lines in ABS-CBN’s teleserye “Magkaribal”. It was said by Victoria, played by Gretchen Barretto. This is Gretchen’s first role in Philippine dramas as a Kapamilya.

The drama is jam-packed with star-studded cast: Bea Alonzo as Gelai, Angel Aquino as Vera, Derek Ramsay as Louie, Enchong Dee as Caloy, and Erich Gonzales as Chloe. Also, popular fashion designers took support and part in the series such as Frederick Peralta and Rene Salud.

It is Magkaribal’s finale week. Even though I am not a fan of Magkaribal, at least I appreciate the real world of fashion industry.

1DOL bids goodbye tonight on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida

“You’ll always be my number one…”

This is indeed one of the most remarkable themes from 1DOL, a musical drama series starring Popstar princess Sarah Geronimo.

Sarah played “Billie” and “Jean” which connects to her two leading men, Sam Milby and Coco Martin. She did “superstar” roles in her series Bituing Walang Ningning and Pangarap na Bituin as Dorina Pineda and Emerald Gomez respectively.

I was saddened when 1DOL will air its finale tonight. I watched first few episodes, but unfortunately I didn’t keep track of what had happened in this series. Its advertiser and promotion head Biboy Arboleda confirmed that 1DOL will not be able to fulfill its 10-13 week term on air due to poor rating and late air time. The show ends with a total of 35 episodes (7 Weeks) just three weeks earlier than its contract.

I hope that she will do another TV series again after 1DOL. Sarah will be forever be my number one Filipino female singer and I will always be her number one Popster.

Jhong Hilario says goodbye Showtime and hello Mara Clara

“Sample, sample, sample, sample…”

Showtime’s madlang pipol shouts this everytime before hurados (judges) will comment on the first group performer. One of the most memorable hurados is Jhong Hilario. He stayed longest among the celebrities who judged the show. He always get lower than 25% of total audience and text votes. Indeed, the madlang pipol loves him so much.

I watched one Showtime episode when Miriam Quiambao tweeted to her followers about her sample performance with Ryan Bang. I was shocked when Jhong Hilario is already out.

Jhong is part of the dance group Streetboys. He was seen in movies such as Muro AmiBagong Buwan, and Emir. He did roles in ABS-CBN action and fantasy dramas like Rounin and Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo. Now he has a new drama project called Mara Clara, a remake starring Kathryn Bernardo. Mara Clara is the longest running drama way back in 90′s starring Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes. Jhong will play the role of Mara’s dad which originally played by the late Eruel Tongco.

I am happy yet sad because even though he is not already Showtime hurado doing “sample” anymore but Mara Clara is a big opportunity for him to show his incredible drama skills as an actor. I wish him good luck in his new project.

Mara Clara will premiere soon on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.
