Ara, Cristine Reyes conned by US promoter?

MANILA, Philippines – Showbiz sisters Ara Mina and Cristine Reyes are fuming mad after failing to receive payment for a series of concerts in the United States.

On her Twitter page, Cristine said that producers of their US show “Sisters Act” did not pay them despite doing 4 shows in Los Angeles, Nevada and Chicago. She said she and her sister did not continue with another scheduled performance in Las Vegas after the producer failed to pay them.

“Nobody should ever feel embarrassed if they’ve been victimized by a con artist. Why? Because after all the hard work… we are not paid. I want to cry!” she said in her June 7 tweet.

Reyes named their producer as a certain Ms. Alegria Natividad.

“Yes, we have a contract but hindi yon nasunod kasi masyado kaming mabait kaya nag-perform pa rin kami kahit walang bayad…It’s not fair, ms. alegria natividad didn’t [give] our money, so in Vegas kapag wala pa rin di na kami magpe-perform,” she said.

On her Twitter page, Reyes thanked fellow Filipinos who took them out for a treat and even paid their hotel bills.

“No pay no show.. di pa kami bayad ni Alegria Natividad sa ibang shows namin dito sa States. How nice di ba? No food rin. Kanya-kanya kami. Good thing may mababait na Pinoy nag-treat sa amin, mabuhay kayo!” Reyes said.

But, in a text message sent to Showbiz News Ngayon, Ara cleared the name of the show’s producer stressing that it was their promoter, a certain Guia, who failed to pay them.

“Just want to clear also na bayad lahat ng producers sa promoter namin na si Guia. Si Guia ang di nakabayad sa amin,” Ara said.

Ara said all of their shows in the US were successful. She is set to fly back in Manila this Friday. (Read more on ABS-CBN News and Yahoo! Entertainment News)

Kim Chiu denies Gerald Anderson is courting Sam Pinto

Without batting an eyelash, young star Kim Chiu denied reports that her perennial onscreen partner, Gerald Anderson, is wooing showbiz newbie Sam Pinto.

“Hindi!” Kim exclaimed when asked by a “Juicy” reporter on June 14 if she believes Gerald has started courting Sam.

Kim explained that her screen partner doesn’t have the luxury of time to court any girl.

“Kasi, kelan siya magkaka-time manligaw, eh, lagi kaming nasa taping, lagi kaming nasa trabaho,” she reasoned.

As soon as she was out of the “Pinoy Big Brother” House, Sam, in a previous interview, admitted she has a crush on Gerald. The two eventually got to work together in an afternoon soap. That started rumors linking them to each other.

Reportedly, Sam caused Kim and Gerald’s recent break-up. And when queried about it, Kim, in exasperation over the recurring rumor, retorted, “Kung hindi man kami live-in, nag-break na. Hanggang saan ba pupunta ito? Lampas tenga na lang kasi parang kung anu-ano na ang sinasabi ng mga tao.”

But as far as their team-up is concerned, Kim said, “Basta kami ni Gerald, okay kami, masaya kami kung anuman ang meron kami.”

“At saka masaya kami dahil maraming projects na dumarating sa amin. ‘Yun lang ang iniisip namin. ‘Yung mga intriga, hayaan na lang natin kung sino man ang naninira. Basta ako wala akong magagawa doon. Hindi ko sila kontrolado.”

And on rumor that she recently had a boob job, Kim exclaimed, “No comment.”

Kim did not categorically deny nor admit the breast enhancement rumor circulating in show business now.

“Bahala na sila. Kung naninira na sila, nasa lugar sila and hindi naman ako gumawa ng kahit na anong masama sa mga taong iyon. Hindi ko naman sila masasabihan na, ‘Hoy, sabihin mo ‘yung ganito, sabihin mo ‘yung ganyan.’ Lagpas tenga iyon.

“Hindi ako galit sa kanila. Hindi ako nagsabi ng kahit anong against kung sino man ang naninira. Ako, nagtatrabaho ako nang maayos dito. Nagsisikap ako.” (Read more on Manila Bulletin and Yahoo! Philippines Entertainment News)

Jovit Baldivino: From selling ‘siomai’ to securing stardom

“Hay salamat, mukhang ito may talent talaga,” judge Kris Aquino blurted when she first saw Jovit Baldivino walk towards the “Pilipinas Got Talent” stage for his audition. Her gut feel was right — the 16-year old Batangueño would eventually win legions of fans and become the first grand prize winner in the talent search.

Out of the 12 finalists who battled it out during the grand finals at the Araneta Coliseum on June 12, the small-town boy with the “God-given” voice proved he not only has the pipes reminiscent of Journey frontman Arnel Pineda, but, as Kris puts it, he has “charisma.” Bulletin Entertainment saw how the crowd got smitten by him that night. Jovit got the loudest cheers, mostly coming from the Jovinatics. Off-air, during the Independence Day performance night show, fans screamed out his name; raising streamers and waving balloons the moment he stepped on stage.

After his performance came the verdict: Comedienne and “Pilipinas Got Talent” judge Ai-Ai delas Alas dubbed him as an “endangered specie” while Kris seems to have set in stone that he is “the next big superstar.” Even man of few words Freddie M. Garcia a.k.a. “FMG” used multiple adjectives in describing how pleased he was with Jovit’s version of Brian May’s “Too Much Love Will Kill You.” “You are unbelievably very, very good,” said Freddie. The online community loves Jovit, too. His performance of “Faithfully” (1,690,509 views), and semi-finals rendition of “Carrie” (734, 481 views) have turned him into one of the most-watched contestants on YouTube. So, whether Jovit joins the powerhouse singers on “ASAP XV” or take over Willie Revillame on “Wowowee” or star on a teleserye with Sarah Geronimo, one this is for sure: Pinoys will remain forever his… faithfully.

MANILA, Philippines – Pokwang revealed that her relationship with her American boyfriend is on the rocks.

“Nasa level kami ngayon nang hindi kami muna nag-uusap,” Pokwang told “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.”

She admitted that her job was among the reasons they have grown apart. “Kasi hindi nya naiintindihan ang trabaho ko.”

“Nag- I- Love-You-han na kami kaya lang… kinulang lang siguro ng tiwala sa isa’t isa. Kasi may naririnig din ako. May nakakita sa kanya doon, mga kakilala namin, sa isang bar, may kasamang girlalet…Tapos dumagdag pa ‘yong sa trabaho ko. May mga text siya kapag hindi ako agad nakakapag-reply,” she said.

She also confessed that the distance took a toll on their relationship. “Hindi ninyo nakikita ang isa’t isa. Tapos ‘yon nga, kung ano-ano ‘yong mga iniisip.”

She also said in jest: “Sayang ang lahi niya. Blue eyes pa naman siya. Pangarap ko ‘yon.” -Report by Marchie Mallari, ABS-CBN.com (Read more on ABS-CBN News and Yahoo! Philippines Entertainment News)

Gabby Concepcion: ‘This is the beginning of something good’

MANILA, Philippines – Coming straight from an out-of-town shoot, Gabby Concepcion was a bit late by the time he arrived on the set of “Sharon” for the taping of the show’s 2-part special episode with former wife Sharon Cuneta and daughter KC Concepcion last Monday.

It was the first time that the three of them were seen together in public, and the studio audience couldn’t help but scream with delight particularly when Gabby and Sharon would tease each other both on and off cam.

This was no doubt a big step for the former couple, who at one time wouldn’t even mention each other’s names during interviews.

“I enjoyed it also. I think this is the beginning of something good. Today’s special for all of us, the three of us, kasi nga it turned our lives around,” Gabby admitted in an interview with ABS-CBN’s entertainment reporters.

It didn’t come as a surprise to him when KC got emotional during the show because he knew how much his daughter wanted him and Sharon to be on good terms again.

“We were on the set when she started to cry. I felt that this was something for her, not only because we did a movie (I’ll Be There), but for me and Sharon to be together in front of her, that she hasn’t seen for many, many years. Kasi for more than 13 years na wala ako, actually more, mga 20 years na ata, hindi kami nag-uusap ni Sharon. But now that we’re all here in the Philippines and KC saw us together finally in the same show, it makes her really feel good that we’re already okay,” he said.

But when asked if it’s possible for him to do a movie with both KC and Sharon, Gabby explained that he’s not sure if such plans would push through anytime soon.

“That’s what I heard. Sinabi nga ni Sharon kanina sa show niya so nagulat din ako na merong ganoong move [or] speculations siguro. People ask me, wala naman ako masagot. It would be nice kasi maraming Sharon-Gabby [fans] ang nagtatanong kung pwedeng gumawa kami ng pelikula ulit. Sabi ko nga, ‘Yeah, it’s a nice dream pero we don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, so let’s see.’”

Meantime, Gabby can’t wait for the moviegoers to see his upcoming movie with KC, saying it will inspire a lot of parents who have lost touch with their children.

“Ang ganda ng feeling kasi magkasama kami sa iisang pelikula and we got the chance to bond as father and daughter both on and off cam. Parang gift na rin ito para kay KC because she really wanted to do a movie with her papa, so that’s really special for me. At the same time, we are hoping that it would touch people’s hearts kaya sana panoorin nila ito in time for Father’s Day celebration,” he beamed.

Star Cinema’s “I’ll Be There” will hit local theaters on June 19. -Report by Rachelle Siazon, ABS-CBN.com

Charice wows biggest crowd at Eaton Centre in Toronto

TORONTO, Canada – There’s no stopping international singing sensation Charice’s rise to stardom. This weekend, she wowed the biggest crowd the Eaton Centre mall in Toronto has ever seen.

The huge crowd, mostly Filipinos, waited for hours to watch Charice perform songs from her album like “Pyramid.”

The Filipino star could hardly believe the turnout. She said she wants to go back soon for a full concert.

“Dream ko to own song ko kinakanta nila. Nakakatuwa alam nila lyrics… sobrang the best, sobrang suporta ng mga Pinoy. Hindi lang mga Pinoy ang daming nagpunta na ibang lahi. Sobrang happy ako,” Charice said.

Charice also clarified a report that she was supposedly cast in the television series, “Glee.” “Nagulat ako siyempre. At the same time flattered ako kasi malaking series… isa lang malaking rumor.”

She added that something she shared about a TV guesting in the States may have been misunderstood.“

“Gusto ko lang linawin, ang sinabi ko show, hindi series. Kasi parang maga-appear sa isang show, not series. Talagang napaka-clear ng sinabi ko, show. Mag-guest po ako sa ‘Regis and Kelly’ this coming June 16,” she said.

Fans of Charice were disappointed upon learning that her Glee casting was not true.

“Masaya sana kung talagang napili siya sa ‘Glee.’ Talagang pang-international na siya,” said Grace Yu, a fan of Charice.

Charice admitted that it is her dream to be part of “Glee.” Just like the dream she’s living now, as her song climbs the billboard charts all over North America. -Report by Marieton Pacheco, ABS-CBN News Toronto (Read more on Yahoo! Philippines Entertainment News)

US Fans Love Regine Velasquez

A bubbly and more relaxed Regine Velasquez showed up at the “meet and greet” with fans, supporters and sponsors from various states of the US East Coast who trooped to Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to catch her Heart 2 Heart concert with Ogie Alcasid, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera last May 23. It was no longer a serious and aloof Asia’s Songbird US Pinoys have come to know over the years. What gives? It must be the love of her life, Ogie Alcasid. Or a red-hot career she continues to enjoy. Or maybe a life of bliss, inner peace and contentment.

How refreshing, isn’t it?

That opening paragraph came from the report of Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent Edmund Silvestre (of The Filipino Reporter) in a Reporter-Funfare tie-up interview. (I send Edmund some questions when he interviews Filipino artists performing in the East Coast and he does the same when I interview foreign artists coming to the Philippines, and then Reporter and this corner put out the interview simultaneously.)

At the cast party hosted by Group Ole’s Drs. Ramon and Ching Legarda following the three-hour concert, Edmund said he managed to corner Regine for a quick Q &A before she and Ogie headed to their hotel suite to meet with Ogie’s US-based sister.

Reported Edmund, “Regine, looking young and fresh, gamely answered all the questions and even got giggly like a schoolgirl at some point of our chat, something we never saw during her previous US gigs.”

Excerpts:

At this point in your career, are there still pressures to prove yourself as an artist?

“As an artist, it’s nice to be on your toes at all times. I don’t know if that’s trying to prove anything to myself or to anyone but it’s always nice to be able to adapt or learn new kinds of music and to be on your toes because in the Philippines ang daming mga talented and very stiff talaga ang competition.”

Are you not threatened by equally-talented and much younger singers?

“I really am not like that. I’m just really very happy with the new kids, with the new talents who are coming out now. They’re really very good. I’m very proud of them.”

Are there pressures for you to stay on top?

“As far as my career is concerned, hindi na siguro kasi I’ve been in the business for such a long time. But I just like to challenge myself like kung hindi ko masyadong kaya ‘yung kanta kakayanin ko, pa-practise-in ko para masabi ko sa sarili ko na at least I tried it.”

What about pressures to deliver a great performance or show?

“D’yan parating may pressure. Like today, people came here to watch us. Of course, we want to give them their money’s worth, you know. So kahit paano may pressure na nagustuhan ba nila ang performance, ang repertoire, okay ba ang boses namin, matatawa ba sila sa joke? Pero pag tumuntong na kami sa stage, wala na ‘yung pressure, we’re just enjoying na lang.”

Some people say had you been born later, or had there been YouTube at the time you were starting as a singer, it could have been you and not Charice who got the world’s attention.

“It’s really her time. It’s really for her. Actually, I did have the chance naman before, eh. It’s not like I didn’t try. It’s just that I knew that if I wanted to make it in the States or anywhere in the world I have to move out of the Philippines, and I wasn’t ready. I already have a comfortable life in the Philippines. My career was doing really very well and I didn’t want to start all over again. Plus my family is in the Philippines. I cannot leave my family for a long period of time.”

So you were given a chance to try your luck outside the Philippines?

“Nagkaroon naman ako ng chance. I was really given the opportunity. I was the one who decided not to take it because parang marami na akong nakuhang blessings from the Philippines. Besides, my dream was mapagtapos ko ang mga kapatid ko sa pag-aaral, maiahon sa hirap ‘yung pamilya ko, nagawa ko lahat ‘yon. eh. Happy na ako na ganoon. And si Charice, it’s good that she is where she is now. Nasa point siya ng life na kaya niyang gawin ‘yon because she’s young and she’s just starting. In my case, na-establish na kasi ang career ko sa Philippines and feeling ko hindi ko na kayang mag-umpisa ulit. Seriously, kuntento na ako kung ano’ng naabot ko and we are very, very proud of Charice that she’s really, really doing well.”

Who do you think is the next Regine Velasquez?

“Nandito pa naman ako.” (Laughs). “Huwag na ‘yung next Regine Velasquez.” (Laughs).

Among the latest crop of young singers, name three you admire the most.

“Si Sarah Geronimo, of course. I always liked Kyla. Si Rachelle Ann Go. And of course, si Charice. So apat ‘yon.”

Why do you think you became a big hit?

“Nu’ng dumating kasi ako hindi ako uso.” (Laughs). “Hindi ako uso noon…ang uso noon sina Kuh Ledesma at Zsa Zsa Padilla. Talagang pagandahan lang ng boses and style at hindi masyado nagbi-belt. Until Whitney Houston came. That was my style, eh, ma-belter. I was just lucky.”

People keep asking when you and Ogie are getting married. Do you ever get tired answering them?

“Oo nga, eh. Nakakapagod na.” (Laughs). “You know, if it’s gonna happen, it’s gonna happen. Basta, we’re still waiting for something. And hopefully mangyari na siya so that we can also plan our lives.”

What about kids?

“Basta sa akin, kung bibigyan kami ng anak then I will really be thankful kay Lord kasi it will be a super-duper big blessing for me. But kung hindi kami palarin, okay lang din sa akin. Kung ano’ng gusto ni Lord, okay sa akin.”

How can you conceive with your hectic schedule?

“Actually nga puwede nang magpahinga ng konti, to slow down. Forty na ako, eh, so puwede nang mag-slow down a little bit to start having a family. Para ngang feeling ko medyo nag-slo-slow down na ako nang konti. Sana nga makabuo na ng family.”

Robin Padilla’s daughter’s revelation!

MANILA, Philippines – Queenie Padilla, ABS-CBN’s newest star, has hinted that his action star father, Robin Padilla, is probably going out on dates these days.

Queenie, however, said she is not sure if her father, who became a guest host of “Wowowee,” is dating Mariel Rodriguez.

“Siguro po, hindi ko alam… kasi ever since nagkakilala sila halos hindi po siya umuuwi. … hindi ko po alam kung nasaan siya. Siguro po nagda-date,” the 19-year-old said.

Robin met Rodriguez when he became the guest host of hit noontime show “Wowowee” for 2 weeks after its main host, Willie Revillame, took an “indefinite break” following a word war with Jobert Sucaldito.

Queenie said she has not been introduced to Rodriguez yet. “Actually po, hindi pa kami nagkakakilala pero kung masaya si Papa ay masaya na din po ako.”

She also took note that since her parents’ separation almost 3 years ago, it was the first time that his father showed interest in another woman.

“Opo kasi dati siyempre malungkot po si Papa sa nangyari,” Queenie said.

She said she doesn’t mind if her father finds a girlfriend. “Basta alagaan po niya si Papa at huwag po siyang lokohin.”

Queenie said she and her siblings have already accepted the decision of their parents to separate. She said her main focus now is her work.

Momay

Queenie will be paired with Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus Big Winner Ejay Falcon in the hit television series “Momay.”

Queenie said she is both nervous and excited with her first TV project.

“May konting pressure rin siyempre kasi nakakabit sa akin ang name ng dad ko. But I’m really enjoying the experience. The cast members are kind enough to give me tips on acting, ” said Queenie, Robin and Liezl Sicangco’s eldest daughter.

Falcon, on the other hand, has been part of 2 weekday teleseryes on ABS-CBN, “Katorse” and “Tanging Yaman.”

“Mas pambata itong ‘Momay.’ Hindi katulad ng ‘Katorse’ at ‘Tanging Yaman’ na seryoso talaga ang plot. Kaya iba rin po ang atake ng pag-arte ko po rito,” Falcon shared.

After being paired with Erich Gonzales, Falcon is excited to work with his new on-screen partner.

“Nakakatuwa po kasama si Queenie sa set. Madali pong kausap at lapitan. Kaya po kapag may eksena kami, hindi na po ganoon kahirap mag-adjust,” he said.

Boy Abunda open to joining Cabinet?

MANILA, Philippines – After saying that he was “not inclined” to accept a Cabinet position in president-apparent Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s government, television host and talent manager Boy Abunda is now singing a different tune.

Abunda clarified that he is not closing his doors to the possibility of serving the Aquino administration, at least, not “while I am under contract with ABS-CBN.”

“Kasi baka sabihin nila kakainin ko ang mga salita ko ngayon. I am not closing my doors. But am I going to accept any offer, halimbawa, today? I am not. No, I am not going to take the position,” he told ABS-CBN News.

Abunda said his contract with ABS-CBN will end in 2011.

Aquino, older brother of Kris Aquino, is eyeing Abunda to become tourism secretary. He took note of “The Buzz” host’s ability to clearly communicate ideas and understand the audience.

When sought for reaction, Abunda initially said that although he is grateful to be considered, he is not “inclined to accept it.”

“I can help ‘Noy in another capacity. I have a personal relationship with Noy. I think it will be more effective if I continue what I am doing now… giving him advice — devoid of agenda and bias, devoid of politics,” Abunda said. -Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News (Read more on ABS-CBN News and Yahoo!
