Kapamilya’s Mara Clara and Kapuso’s Baker King both nominated at 2011 Banff World Media Awards

It seems that the battle against ratings of ABS-CBn’s Mara Clara and GMA 7’s tagalong dubbed Korean novela “Baker King” originally known as Bread Love and Dreams was taken to another level of competition. Both Mara Clara and Baker King were nominated Best Soap Opera and Telenovela in the Fiction Category of the 2011 Banff World Media Awards, more popularly known as the Rockies Award.

According to www.banffmediafestival.com The Banff World Media Winners will be announced at one of three special Rockies awards ceremonies taking place during the Festival: the Interactive Rockies, Non-Fiction Rockies, and Fiction Rockies in which the Best Soap Opera and Telenovela category falls under.

The Fiction Rockies ceremony will recognize the very best in the scripted programming from around the world.

Other nominees competing for the same title are: the long running US soap, Days of Our Lives; Coronation Street from the UK; Eva Luna from the USA; and The Queen of the South also from the US.

The ceremony will be held on June 12, 2011 at AOL Canada Theatre and hosted by Entertainment Tonight Canada Hollywood Correspondent Matte Babel.

According to Kimberly Tan’s report on GMA News online, PO3 Rodel Druha of the Antipolo Police said  Pilar Pilapil was with a female companion named Rosel Rosalem when two armed men forced them to alight their Kia car at around 9:30 p.m. at the Marikina City Riverbanks on Thursday.

An abs-cbnNEWS.com source said that Pilar Pilapil met Rosalem in a mall to discuss the latter’s planned donation for the actress’ Pilar Pilapil Foundation.

The 1967 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe  was kidnapped and stabbed by the suspect around 12 am in Antipoli City, then thrown in a vacant lot in  Piedra Blanca Homes also in AntipoloCity with three stab wounds. Pilar was brought to the hospital by the residents who found her in Antipolo Medical Center in Masinag then transferred to Medical City in Pasig.

PO3 Druha also said that hey have aready issued an advisory about the vehicle that was carjacked. He also said that the case has been turned to Marikina City Police Station.And on an updated report of Abs-cbnNEWS.com a source said that the former beauty queen turned into actress is now okay.

Jericho stars in an international indie film “Subject: I Love You”

Kapamilya star Jericho Rosales was excited on the upcoming premiere of his first time ever international indie film “Subject: I Love You” at the Newport Beach Film Festival on April 30.

The film was based on a destructive computer program created by a Filipino programmer whom played by Jericho Rosales. The program successfully attacked tens of millions of Windows computers in 200 including computer systems at the Pentagon, Parliament and the CIA.

The action-packed/romantic movie was filmed last 2009 together with Hollywood stars like Briana Evigan (from Step Up 2) played the love interest of Victor, and  Dean Cain (Clark Kent/Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.) Dante Basco(voice of  Zuko in Avatar), Kristin Bauer (True Blood), Lauren Bittner, Andrew Leeds, Luisse Belle Pressman. “Subject: I Love You” was produced by Barclay DeVeau and written and directed by Francis dela Torre. Filipino artists Joel Torre, Gary Valenciano and Black Eyed Peas singer Apl De Ap are also in the film’s cast.

On an interview of Yahoo! OMG! Philippines with the actor said that it is a dream come true for a local artist like him to have an opportunity to have a film that will be shown internationally. He feels proud and excited yet humbled of this project.

Jericho also shared that difference of working on a Hollywood movie as against local productions. “I wish Philippines could have money to produce those kinds of films. I wish that the support of the Filipinos will be doubled,” he told Yahoo! OMG! Philippines.

He also requested the government to support and push the anti-piracy campaign in the country because he believes that Filipino movies could also compete on international industries. The world is a stage and now is the time for Filipinos to shine,” Jericho said.

Dante Nico Garcia confirmed that Beth Tamayo is alive

Actress Beth Tamayo was recently rumored one of the three drug couriers recently executed in China. But director Garcia whom the actress work with in the 2008 film “Ploning” denied it and even said in an interview in “The Buzz” last Sunday April 10 2011 that the actress is still very much alive and had been communicating with him via Blackberry messenger (BBM) for the last months.

He even added that the actress just laughed at the issue and said she’s never been to China. She just thanked those who cared about her so much. According to Garcia Tamayo is in US, just having the time of her life. She has a corporate job somewhere.  And she’s really enjoying her life now.

Rumors of Tamayo’s death exploded last week after several wags insinuated that she and executed drug courier Elizabeth Batain were the same person.

Even though Batain’s face was never shown in the media, not even before or after her execution, March 30 TV host Kris Aquino who visited the Elizabeth Batain’s wake said she have seen her remains. She also refuted the rumors of Tamayo’s death.

Jonathan Garcia or known as the famous Filipino stand-up comedian Chokoleit was in the headline last Sunday on an April 10 issue of “7days” Dubai-Based newspaper with the headline “Decency rule is no joke”.

According to PEP Philippines Chokoleit was crossing the street from the hotel where he checked in when the policeman noticed what he’s wearing and stopped him and brought him to the precinct.  He’s comfortably wearing a pair of denim shorts.  Dubai although known to be a progressive and open city, unlike the other countries is still conservative and still sticks to their policies according to Muslim traditions.

The incident where Chokoleit was involved serves as a warning other tourists. “My advice to visitors to the UAE is that ignorance of the law is no excuse for anyone.” he said.

Although know as a comedian, he said his choice of denim shorts was no laughing matter when he was stopped by officers in Bur Dubai. After 5 hours of questioning he was released and even though he missed his flight, fortunately he left without any case filed against him.

Because of incident embassies from different countries rereleased advisories for “do’s and don’ts” and Even the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Department (DTCM), together with UAE (United Arab Emirates) malls released too to serve as warning for the tourists in Dubai.

Philippines Consul General of Dubai, Benito Valeriano, said visitors must make sure they do not cross the cultural line. He told 7DAYS: “I always tell people to obey the laws and the regulations in this coun¬try and to be conscious of the cultural differences so that these kinds of incidents don’t happen. There is eno¬ugh information available for people to know what the laws are here and if they are conscious of them when they visit, these kinds of misunderstandings that cause inconvenience for both the individual and the police would not happen.”

After all the controversies thrown to host Willie Revellame of TV’s “Willing Willie” on March 12 episode where he was accused of child abuse, the host decided to take a break to give time for his self to reflect about what happened.

The issue gave the TV show and the network big impact that caused DSWD (Department of Social Welfare Development), CHR (Commission on Human Rights) and CBCP (Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines) to be alarmed.  Movie and Television Review and Classification Board then decided to review the controversial episode that’s been talk of the town lately.

Recently, JFC (Jollibee Food Corp.) decided to suspend their ad placement  Mang Inasal  in “Willing Willie” to review the issue.  This action of JFC gained positive responds from the viewers. Procter and Gamble did the same.  According to Yahoo! Phillipines News, P&G Philippines released a statement through Anama Dimapilis of P&G’s Corporate Communications, Brand Public Relations department regarding their decision about the issue.

While two other sponsors of the show also pulled out their ads, Unilever and Cebuana Lhuillier, CDO-Foodsphere Inc. will no longer continue sponsorship to the show but still stick to their first statement where they wouldn’t pull out their advertisement until the end of their advertisement contract.

On last night’s live airing of “Willing Willie”, Willie announced that he will take a break for to think and reflect whether he’ll continue hosting the show or not.  He asked to give him time to think hard about this matter. But before ending his announcement he didn’t forget to express his reaction on those intriguing him and accusing him of child abuse. He even mentioned celebrities that attacked him through the micro blogging website twitter.

The controversial host also appealed on the suspension issue of his show and bragged to be fair. He said if they’ll be suspended other networks should be suspended also, he’s talking about ABS-CBN’s Goin’ Bulilit and Showtime, where child in Goin’ Bulilit and Showtime dancing the same as Jan Jan’s dance during his program.
Willie assured that if ever he’ll be able to be back, he’ll continue what he have started, giving hope to his fellow Filipinos. Even if advertisers will not support the show, he promised to sacrifice his own salary for the sake of the people who hopes and believes in him.

Starting today, April 9, “Willing Willie” will not be airing live; instead recorded episodes will be shown for the following weeks.

Procter and Gamble suspends TV ads on Willing Willie while MTRCB is discussing about suspension of the show

Jolibee Foods Corporation temporarily pulled out its Mang Inasal ads placements on “Willing Willie” because of the March 12 episode of TV5’s afternoon show Willing Willie where Willie Revillame, the host of the show, taunted and goaded a six-year-old boy into performing a sexually suggestive dance.

After few days, Procter and Gamble, one of the sponsors of the game show also decided to suspend their advertisement on the show.  According to Ellen Tordesillas on (news.yahoo.ph) P&G Philippines released a statement through Anama Dimapilis of P&G’s Corporate Communications, Brand Public Relations department.

The letter stated: “Procter & Gamble strives to advertise on programs that align with our values as a company and our purpose to touch and improve lives. We routinely monitor the media in which our brands’ messages appear and make advertising decisions that meet our policies and achieve our goals. We are aware of the recent incident in the program of ‘Willing Willie’ and we have suspended advertising on the show beginning April 7, 2011, while the incident is being reviewed and investigated by authorities.”

It is expected that todayApril 7, MTRCB will be announcing their decision regarding these incident.  According to Ellen Tordesillas of Yahoo! OMG! Philippines!,  One of the officials of MTRCB who didn’t want to be named said that there’s no question about the suspension and what’s being discussed is for how long the show will be suspended.

Sarah Geronimo wants to study abroad

The Pop Star Princess opened up on her plans on studying abroad.

There are rumors spreading in showbiz industry that this April, singer /actress Sarah Geronimo will flew in US to pursue one of her dreams.

After the success of the Star Cinema and Viva Films movie”Catch Me… I’m Falling” which she teamed up with Gerald Anderson, they went on The Buzz last Sunday, April 3, to thank their fans who supported their film. Charlene Gonzales-Mulach (one of the hosts of the showbiz talk show) got the chance to ask about Sarah’s plans after the success of their film. The singer said that she’s still studying in an Open University of University of the Philippines. She admitted that she has a plan of studying dance and voice lessons to enhance her skills hopefully in States.

When asked if she will be with her whole family, she replied while laughing that she will be going with her mom only because bringing her whole family will mean a lot of expenses.

It is said that a ring worth P180, 000 owned Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao was lost.

The world boxer’s mom said that the ring might slip on her finger when she was in General Santos City in Sarangani last Friday, April 2.

World boxer Pacman’s mom’s been keeping the ring for almost eleven years which was given by her daughter-in-law Jinky Pacquiao.

She tried to look for the ring last Saturday but she failed, that’s why she just asked if anybody could find it. She prepared a reward for the person who could bring the ring back to her.

Despite the loss of her expensive ring, Mommy Dionisia wouldn’t ask her son Manny Pacquiao a replacement.
