Carla Abellana: Torn Between Two Movies

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Regal Baby Carla Abellana has two movie entries in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival. She will play the role of Charlotte in ‘Yesterday Today Tomorrow’ and ER Ejercito’s leading lady in ‘Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story’. Carla’s appearance in The Asiong Salonga story created a conflict in her contract with Regal Films.

ER Ejercito told the press that Carla is being prohibited by Regal to promote their movie that’s why the actress wasn’t able show up in the press conference of The Asiong Salonga Story.

“Siya ang humaharang. Ayaw niyang mag-promote si Carla, e…Ang banggit sa akin ni Carla at ng kanyang manager na si Arnold Vegafria, ‘pag sila daw ay nag-promote, o pupunta sa presscon, sasakay sa float sa December 24, at kapag nanood sa premiere night, e, idedemanda raw ng Regal Films,” said ER Ejercito.

On the other hand, Carla denied that there is a legal threat posted against her and her manager by Regal. She said that Mother Lily has nothing to do with her absence in The Asiong Salonga Story’s press conference. According to her, she is just so busy that she doesn’t even have time to promote Yesterday Today Tomorrow, which is her priority being Regal’s exclusive artist.

Meanwhile, Mother Lily issued a statement on Twitter to clarify the issue:

“I would like to clarify ER Ejercito’s recent statements regarding our contract star Carla Abellana who he contracted to appear in his movie. Firstly, Carla is an exclusive contract artist of Regal Films. Both her and her manager Arnold Vegafria did not ask our permission to be part of ER’s movie. It is not true that Carla has an option to do 1 movie out of Regal. She does not. All I expect from my contract stars is the respect from them and their managers to honor their commitments. May we also suggest to ER to check his facts first before making such statements. Neither do we wish this situation to be used as an issue to generate publicity. The issue is clear neither Carla or her manager Arnold Vegafria asked for permission to shoot this movie with ER and as such are in breach of their signed contract. We have other contract stars who we have lent to other productions. In fact Marian Rivera is in Panday. She is also an exclusive star of Regal but all proper protocol was followed. Let us all respect each other so that we can work harmoniously to rebuild our industry.”

Ate Shawie is the Newest Kapatid

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Megastar Sharon Cuneta’s transfer from ABS-CBN to TV5 has long been an issue which Megastar neither confirmed nor denied. Yesterday, November 22, 2011, the issue was proved to be right as TV5 employees welcome Sharon Cuneta as their newest Kapatid. Describing how she felt as she stepped foot in TV5 office at Marajo Tower in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig with a warm welcome by her new TV5 family, Sharon said that it was “mixed emotions.”

The Megastar signed a five- year-contract with the Kapatid Network inclusive of a daily TV show, a reality show, and a movie project. Present in the contract signing was TV5 President and CEO Atty. Ray Espinosa, TV5 COO Robert Barriero, Sharon Cuneta’s longtime manager Sandra Chavez and her other manager Vic del Rosario of Viva Artist Agency. However, TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan was not there during the contract signing. “MVP is supposed to be here but there’s too much Pangilinans already,” Sharon said as a joke.

Sharon Cuneta is rumored to have a 1 billion peso talent fee but when the press tried to confirm the issue, they just kept mum about it.

On the other hand, KC was clueless in her mom’s transfer of home network.

KC on the issue: “Wala pa po siyang [her mom] kinukuwento sa akin. Siguro hinihiwalay lang niya ‘yong… Whatever makes her happy, magiging masaya din ako.”

Meanwhile, the much awaited Vilma Santos-Sharon Cuneta movie will not push through yet. Both Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Star for All Season Vilma Santos were saddened on this postponement.

“Hindi ako matatahimik hangga’t hindi kami gumagawa ng movie together,” Sharon said.

“Ang mga proyekto there’s such a thing as right timing e. Pagka may mga obstacles na ganyan, huwag nating ituloy. Baka kasi hindi pa time yan. Pero definitely, and magandang balita is nakareserba yan,” Ate Vi explains.

As of now, Ate Shawie focuses her attention in her movie with Gerald Anderson, Enrique Gil, and Julia Montes under the direction of Laurenti Dyogi which will be showed in theaters next year.

Maricel Soriano fails to attend a clarificatory hearing regarding physical abuse case

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Maricel Soriano

The Diamond Star Maricel Soriano failed to attend the clarificatory hearing regarding on the physical abuse case filed by her previous house helpers namely, Mae Cachuela and Camille Acojedo. The said hearing was scheduled last Wednesday, October 5, at the Makati Prosecutor’s Office (particularly at the office of Fiscal Paulo Talban).

According to the report of Jen Cruz-Pastrana of from Radyo Inquirer 990 AM, Mae and Camille were present at the said hearing together with their legal counsel, Atty. Tolie Estrella.

Everyone waited almost 3 hours for the presence of the diamond star yet she did not appear.

In an interview with Mon Tulfo’s radio segment, Atty. Estrella stated the importance of a clarificatory hearing into the case filed against Maricel. “Bale last week po, e, nagpasya po ang investigating prosecutor na si Paulo Talban na i-schedule po ang dalawang kampo para sa clarificatory hearing. Ang ibig pong sabihin nito is bibigyan ng pagkakataon ang bawat partido na linawin ang mga issues na malabo sa prosecutor bago niya ito pagdesisyunan kung anong kaso ang dapat isamapa laban sa respondent,” she said.

Atty. Estrella was shocked unto excuse sent by Maricel’s camp saying they were not notified. According to her, she had seen the actress’ legal counsel, Atty. Raquel Taguien, at the lobby of the Prosecuter’s office.

“E, gaya po ng nasabi ko, nabigyan kami ng notice. Actually, nakita ko pa nga ang legal counsel ng respondents sa lobby kaninang umaga. Laking gulat ko na lang nang nag-text na ‘we’re not notified’ daw, wala daw silang notice,” she added.

Furthermore, Atty. Estrella revealed that additional cases might be filed against the actress. In her statement she said: “Originally po kasi is, dahil nga sa panahon na ‘yon, e, wala pang legal counsel sina Mae. Ang isa pang kaso ay grave threat, oral defamation, tsaka physical injuries. Siguro blessing in disguise na lang dahil ‘yong complaint affidavit nila kapag binasa mo, kumpleto po ang elemento ng kidnapping and serious illegal detention, which is a graver crime. So, ayun nga, kung susuwertihin tayo, I hope papanigan tayo ng batas, is masasampahan ng serious illegal detention si Maricel Soriano.”

She later said that once Maricel is proven guilty of the said crime, she will imprisoned under “Reclusion temporal.”

“Reclusion Temporal is an Afflictive Penalty based on Revised Penal Code of the Philippines Book I Art. 25. This penalty is given to grave felonies, and the duration of which differs if its Reclusion Temporal in its Maximum, Medium or Minimum application,” based from the Philippine Laws.

This is the second time Maricel failed to attend any hearing regarding the physical abuse case filed against her. She had a no-show at her first meeting with her former house helpers last June 6, 2011.

‘My Neighbor’s Wife’ heats up the cinemas today

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

This year’s controversial sexy drama film ‘My Neighbor’s Wife’ is showing today in cinemas nationwide with R-13 rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board. The lead stars Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe, Jake Cuenca, and Carla Abellana, set to catch the eyes of many movie viewers with their sizzling love scenes and chemistry in the film that focuses in love, deception, and marital infidelity, produced by Regal Films, written and directed by Jun Lana.

(From left) Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe, Jake Cuenca and Carla Abellana

The story revolves in two modern couples (Jake and Carla, Dennis and Lovi) who have different lifestyles. Jake and Carla play the role of the rich couple, Bullet and Jasmine. Bullet is said-to-be a co-owner of a bar and Jasmine is a housewife. However, Dennis and Lovi are the working-class couple, Aaron and Cielo. Aaron is medical-school graduate who fails in business ventures thereby gets a loan from Bullet to finance his auto-repair shop. Cielo is a medical representative who loves luxury items to complement her looks. The four characters become close friends yet their friendship turn sour because of their marital infidelity.

The stars admit they have grown more as actors and have conquered their fear through the mature role they portray in the film. Like the case of Carla Abellana, this has been her first time to be daring in a movie or a show and she got through it with the help of the entire cast and crew.

It is also noticeable how the lead stars fit the characters that they portray. With Lovi’s sexy and alluring body, she is able use her physical assets and combines it with the different aspects of the Cielo’s like being sensual, sensitive, impulsive, humble, funny, persevering which results to an exact portrayal of Cielo. In the movie, Carla is exactly what Jasmine is. Her calm personality paired with the character’s good-natured and kindness, with a bit of a jealous and revengeful housewife, she made her way to also stand-out in this movie. The hunks, Jake and Dennis, added sizzle to the story.

The movie also entails the characters’ lives after the marital infidelity.

Sam Concepcion acts as Peter Pan

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

The teen actor Sam Concepcion takes another big leap in his career as he gets the main role as ‘Peter Pan’, a musical show co-produced by STAGES and Repertory Philippines to be directed by Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo and Jaime Del Mundo.

“I am excited to work with everyone. It has been a while, since I performed for a musical. I have been raring to do this,” says Sam as he express his excitement for the upcoming musical which will start showing on September 29 up to October 30 at the Meralco Theater, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

This musical show is somewhat like a milestone since it is an Asian premiere of this Peter Pan version and the first time STAGES and Repertory Philippines collaborated a show. Peter Pan is a timeless tale by Sir James Barrie about a boy who never grew up.

The young performer has starred in numerous shows namely, High School Musical, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. He takes on his theater comeback through Peter Pan along with the stars Michael Williams (as Hook) and Tippy Dos Santos, another ABS-CBN star, (as Wendy) with Cara Barredo (as alternate).

“Aside from singing, dancing, and acting onstage, which I have been doing ever since I was young, I am excited that I get to fly in this musical. It will be a fun, full of flying show and I assure everyone that this production will be the ultimate family show,” says Sam as he gives details of the ‘Peter Pan’ role.

Moreover, Sam shares motivation for challenging himself continuously through given opportunities.

“I’d like to continue to challenge myself into doing bigger things and it’s a given (naman) that we do projects like that… abroad, go international, release albums abroad. As the years progress… especially this year, it has been one of the best years for me (kasi lahat nagawa ko),” says Sam in an interview with PEP.ph.
