Alodia Gosiengfiao to lead a J-Pop group

She rose to fame for donning different clothes and using make up to change her looks. But after being hailed as the country’s Cosplay Queen, 25-year old Alodia Gosiengfiao is now ready to embark on a new adventure as she leads a pop group in Japan.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Gosiengfiao shared that she was discovered in Singapore by a Japanese music producer who was judging a cosplay competition. Since then, Gosiengfiao has already recorded an album in Japan.

She said she had to learn how to speak Nihongo for her album, although she also recorded English versions of the songs.

“Actually, I sing in secret (laughs). I sing mostly Japanese songs, at home or sometimes in events but kasi mostly here in the Philippines, mostly birit. It’s hard to compete with that,” she said.

Gosiengfiao also showed ABS-CBN News the music video shoot of her J-pop girl group Super Dolls, which features two popular Japanese cosplayers.

“It’s a great honor but sobrang napre-pressure ako kasi syempre we have a lot of talented singers and talented artist here in the Philippines,” she said.

Aside from being a cosplayer, Gosiengfiao also hosts, acts and endorses products alongside popular celebrities in the Philippines. Recently, Gosiengfiao was named one of the ambassadors for the cable channel Animax Asia. She was also a co-host of the ABS-CBN show “Laugh Out Loud” and appeared in the Star Cinema movie “The Reunion.”

New Pinay to be the Next American Idol

“Are you Filipino?” Nicki Minaj asked the 17-year-old who had sauntered onto the “American Idol” stage during the Sudden Death elimination round in Last Vegas Wednesday, Feb. 21. “Yes, ma’am!” replied the teen, who was dressed in a flowy mullet skirt and sky-high heels.

Latonio, a high school student of Anchorage’s East High School, sang Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way” and received a standing ovation from the judges. She was the last contestant called to occupy only 5 positions reserved that day for the female contingent of the competition. Five other female hopefuls were eliminated.

Latonio said she was “relieved” when she made it as finalist. Adriana Latonio sings Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way”.

Poised and ready. “I was like, yo! This girl’s a pro,” Randy Jackson said. Minaj was impressed by Latonio’s cool. “I did not see one ounce of fear in you. I think that you’re poised and ready. So congratulations little ladybug,” said Minaj. She called Latonio, who stands 5 feet, a “little tiny thing but commands the stage the second she walks out.”

Small town girl. In the clip that preceded her performance, Latonio was seen showing off the Anchorage landscape. “In Alaska, people think we have igloos, ride sled dogs,” she said, as the camera followed her walking up a snow-less road. “It’s a really beautiful state.”

On joining “American Idol,” she said, “I just wanna show the world that even a small town girl like me can go somewhere in their life.” Another clip showed her teachers, among them her vocal coach, calling her a very talented girl.

Can relate to Jessica Sanchez. Latonio follows in previous Fil-Am hopefuls who shone on the Idol stage, most notably last season’s runner-up Jessica Sanchez. ”I feel just I can relate to her,” Latonio said of Sanchez on another occasion. “We’re of the same age and I know she’s been working to be a popular singer for a while and her parents have also sacrificed a lot.”

Like Sanchez, Latonio showed her chops early in life. “Ever since I was 2-years-old, you couldn’t get the mic out of my hand,” she confessed. Five more girls and five more guys will be chosen as finalists on Wednesday, Feb 27. (Thursday, Feb 28, Manila time).

Jessica Sanchez And Phillip Phillips Face Off On American Idol Finale

The face-off between Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips happened in the finale of American Idol Season 11.

A lot of Filipino citizens were excited and is interested to know what would be the result. In addition, they’re hoping that Jessica would win the battle this is because Jessica possesses a Filipino blood.

The mother of Jessica, Ms. Editha is a Filipino who was raised in Samal, Bataan. While her father, Gilbert, is a Mexican.

Jessica and her family lives in Chula Vista, California.

The finale was held in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California and the two finalists, Jessica and Phillip, underwent 3 rounds.

Initially, they sang the song that Simon Fuller, idol creator of American Idol, picked. Next were their own personal favorites since the season started. And lastly, there first single hit if they would be able to win in the face-off.

Simon chose “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston for Jessica.

While, “Stand By Me” of Ben E. King for Phillip.

In the first wound, it was Jessica who got the heart of the judges namely Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson.

In the favorite performance part of the 2 finalists, Jessica for the 2nd time sang “The Prayer” by Andrea Bocelli and celine Dion. Jessica sang it because it was the song that she performed in Las Vegas that make her enter the Top 24.

On the other hand, Phillip chose “Movin’ Out” by Billy Joel in which he already sang during the selection of Top 10.

In this round, Jessica was the chosen finalist by Steven, Phillip for Jennifer Lopez and for Randy it was a tie performance.

In the last round or known as the individual original songs, “Changes Nothing” is the title that Jessica sang and “Home” for Phillip.

The composition by Jessica did not delight the judges but they say that Jessica executed the song very well.

A standing ovation from the 3 judges was received by Phillip after his last performance.

Although the judges already gave comments regarding the performances of Jessica and Phillip, still, the decision of who will win the face-off depends on the viewers.

Votes from the public majority will determine whether Jessica or Phillip will be the one proclaim as American Idol.

If we were be talking of voice, of whoever excels when it comes to singing, no hesitation it would be Jessica.

In the last 4 seasons of American Idol it was seen that all are white guy people who knows how to play the guitar are being proclaimed as American Idol winner – David Cook (Season 7), Kris Allen (Season 8), Lee DeWyze (Season 9), at Scotty McCreery (Season 10).

Aside from this observation, according to demographics, Phillip has a wide array of supporters coming from the teenagers and women that merely composes the American idol viewers.

If this would be non-stop, or no change would occur, then with that Phillip would be the 5th white guy with guitar that would be winning in American Idol.

The last woman contestant that was proclaimed as American Idol winner was Jordin Sparks last Season 6.

If there would be any competitive advantage that Jessica has over Phillip, aside from her voice, it would be the number of supports that she is getting from the Filipino people not only in America but also in the Philippines.

Surely, the votes coming from the Philippines would be a big help, especially many Filipinos are campaigning for the win of Jessica as the 1st half-Pinay of American Idol.

She is a 16-year old American of Filipino and Mexican descent who competed against Joshua Ledet and Philip Philips for the Final Top Two round.

You know, it’s a good thing they admitted their fault.”

Sabi ko, ‘But thank you for giving me a chance.’ Alam mo ‘yon, that’s why I’m so happy kasi these singers, knowing that I’m not a singer, are game to sing with me. Kaya nagiging inspirational para sa lahat ng mga hindi singers, na okay lang.”

Masaya na ako na nangyari siya once. ‘Yong sa Araneta, that was the pinakabongga for me. Ngayon, may Cebu and everything. Although I want to do it kasi may mga hindi nakarating. May ibang taga-probinsya na nagtu-tweet, ‘Pumunta naman po kayo dito. So natutuwa ako na ang daming mga [nagre-request]. May Davao, may Bacolod. Kaya sabi ko, ‘Ang taray naman. Pasok!’ I wanna do it for them also”, she said.

For me, in my heart, I’ve always wanted to be more edgy, rock, more [on the] dark side. I’m really happy and this is a big deal for me ‘coz finally, nararating ko ang mga gusto ko. I know some people think that this is very rebellious but it’s not. It’s just me evolving. It’s me transforming into another person that is totally me.”

She is also aware that she is considered a role model for young people. She says, “I know may mga tao na nagsasabing ako ang inspirasyon nila. Ang gusto ko lang sabihin, magbago man ang looks ko, yung attitude is still the same.”

There are two differing opinions being considered for her image. She said, “Yung ibang people sa management, gusto nila yung look ko parang Selena Gomez.
