John Lloyd tears up on The Buzz

John Lloyd Cruz may already be one of this generation’s brightest stars but the actor, it turns out, sometimes doesn’t think highly of himself.

During his guesting on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Cruz turned emotional after watching a recorded video of his past and present leading ladies, who only had good words to say about him. “Ang bigat masyado [nung video]. Mare-realize mo na ganun pala iyon? Minsan kasi iba ang tingin mo sa sarili mo, tapos sa ibang tao pala, okay ka naman pala. Ang galing. It makes you appreciate yourself a lot better,” he said with tears in his eyes.

Cruz said he is deeply grateful to Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga, Angel Locsin and Sarah Geronimo for making him realize that he has done something right in his life. “Ang dami diyan na tunay na mahuhusay at tunay na dedicated at talagang magaling. Madalas nahihiya ako kapag nakakasama ko ‘yung talagang mga tinitingala sa larangan ng pag-arte at sa standards mo, sila talaga ‘yung magaling. But minsan kapag sinasabi ng ibang tao, magpapasalamat ka na lang. Salamat po,” he said.

Working with Sarah. Meanwhile, Cruz said he is already excited for his fans to see his latest movie with Geronimo titled “It Takes A Man and A Woman.” This is the third — and reportedly the last — installment of their big screen team-up. “Iba na kasi ito eh. Iba na ang take off ng story. You have to watch it. Hindi ko rin maikwento. If you’ve seen the trailer, maiintindihan niyo. Mags-start siya na ‘yung love story ni Miggy and Laida, natapos,” he said.

Recalling when they did “A Very Special Love” five years ago, Cruz said his team-up with Geronimo is just proof that some of the best things that happen in life are not actually planned. “It was parang by accident eh. Hindi sinasadya. If I remember it correctly, hindi naman talaga iyon ang dapat na gagawin ko. I was supposed to do a movie with another leading lady tapos hindi puwede so sabi nila ito na lang, gawin natin ito,” he said.

“Kami ni Sarah since day one, since that ‘MMK’ episode hanggang ngayon, naniniwala ako na we will always have this very special connection. Hindi siya chemistry eh. It’s a gift that goes beyond the chemistry. Iba ‘yung sa amin ni Bea, iba y’ung sa amin ni Angel, ni Toni. Iba ‘to eh,” he added.

“It Takes A Man and A Woman” is set to be released in theaters nationwide on March 30.

Albie Casino respects Jackie; happy for Andy

Showbiz is such a small world. Actor Albie Casiño almost bumped into Jaclyn Jose, mother of his ex-girlfriend Andi Eigenmann at the AFP Theater, Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City where the 29th Star Awards for Movies was held on Sunday, March 10.

The new TV5 actor accompanied Dawn Balagot, who was nominated in the New Movie Actress of the Year category for the independent film “The Animals.” Jaclyn, on the other hand, presented the Movie Actress of the Year award. They arrived at the venue almost at the same time.

In an interview before he left the venue, Albie said he “possibly” could have given his respects to Jaclyn had he known she was in the vicinity.

Unfortunately, Jaclyn was not open to the idea. “Ay, hindi ko siya gustong makita,” she said of Albie. Asked what he thinks of Jaclyn’s reaction, Albie said: “I respect that. It’s not comfortable with anyone involved. That’s her emotion and I respect that.”

Would he still approach Jaclyn if ever they have a chance meeting? “Ngayon na alam kong di siya comfortable, hindi na, di ba?” he replied.

Albie added that he understands where Jaclyn is coming from.

Although he is yet to speak with Andi and her daughter Adrianna Gabrielle, Albie is happy for his ex-girlfriend, now that she seems to be in a better place. “I’m happy for her. Good for her. No more negative energy and that’s good for everyone.”

Does he plan to iron out issues between him and Andi? “Honestly, I think I have made an effort na to do that. You said naman na Andi’s happy so I don’t think there’s any need to (add fuel to) the fire,” Albie replied.

What would he do if he bumps into Andi in public or in a showbiz event? “Okay lang po. I’ll say hi, I guess. Para sa akin po, there’s no more bad blood,” Albie said.

Now that he’s with TV5, the star of the upcoming show “Cassandra: Warrior Angel” said he didn’t move to a different station because of his issues with Andi. “It’s just what’s best for everyone,” he said.

Given a choice, where would he want to work, ABS-CBN and TV5?

Albie answered: “No comment. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Daniel Padilla’s Birthday to Be Held at the Big Dome

Good news for the fans of young actor Daniel Padilla as he confirmed that he will have a birthday concert at the Araneta Coliseum on April 30.

In an interview during his pictorial shoot on Wednesday, Padilla, who dreams to be a rock star, admitted that he is nervous about the concert but vowed to give his best for his fans. “Hindi naman kasi ako singer, magko-concert pa ako. Pero gagawin ko lahat para maging successful ‘yung show,,” said Padilla, who will turn 18 on April 26.

“Regalo ko ito sa mga fans, sa mga supporters ko. Para sa inyo ‘yon lahat. Sa mga ibinigay niyo sa akin gusto kong makabawi kaya ‘yon mag-enjoy lang tayo sa araw na ‘yon,” he added. Padilla said he will have an “old school rock” show with some of his closest friends, including his “Princess and I” co-stars Enrique Gil and Khalil Ramos.

“Pagdating mo old school, nasa ’60s ka. Masarap ‘yung feeling. Good vibes lahat ‘yon. ‘Yung suot more on black and white, brush up ang mga tao at more on rock and roll,” he said. For the fans of his love team with leading lady Kathryn Bernardo, Padilla revealed that the actress will also have a special participation in his concert. “Gusto niya sana maging guest lang, gusto niya ma-feel ‘yung nanonood lang siya,” he said. Aside from concert, Padilla is also set to record his second album.

“Yan para maiba naman ‘yung marinig natin medyo nakakasawa na ‘yung kanta ko. Medyo ibahin natin, basta iba siya. Kasama yung ‘Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat’ at isa pa,” said Padilla, referring to his popular entry in the recent Himig Handog songwriting contest.

Padilla added that he is also thinking of including inspirations songs in his second album.

Birthday gift for mom. In the interview, Padilla admitted that he is also working hard to give his biggest gift for his mother Karla Estrada — a house.

“Pinagta-trabahuan ko na ngayon ‘yon. Actually para sa aming lahat ‘yon. Ang bahay kailangan mo talaga ‘yon, kahit anong mangyari ay may bahay ka. Kaya ‘yun ang pinagta-trabahuan ko para sa pamilya ko. May bahay naman kami pero iba ‘yung malaking bahay pang-family talaga,” he said.

Padilla, who just bought his dream car as gift to himself, said the house will be in Quezon City.

Hero Angeles’ comeback to big screen

The former Kapamilya star on Monday attended the premiere night of “Fighting Chefs,” where he stars alongside the film’s director Ronnie Ricketts. The debut screening at Robinsons Galliera in Ortigas is Angeles’ first public appearance as an actor promoting a big screen project.

The action flick also stars Mark Gil, Arci Munoz, Chef Boy Logro, Vandolph, John Hall, Joross Gamboa, Jade Lopez and Jeffrey Santos. In “Fighting Chefs,” Angeles plays a restaurant cook who is caught in a clash to protect the business against perpetrators. This is Angeles first major film or TV role since 2009, when he last appeared in a number of TV series and a horror flick.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Monday, the “Bcuz of U” star expressed happiness over finally returning to acting. Moving forward, Angeles said he hopes to work with Kapamilya actresses Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador.

The actor rose to fame after earning the “Grand Teen Questor” title in the Kapamilya reality talent search “Star Circle Quest” in 2004, which also launched his love team with Korean Sandara Park.

But Angeles’ thriving career slowly fizzled as he figured in arguments with the entertainment press and officials of ABS-CBN over alleged disagreements on career path.

In 2008, Angeles formally transferred to GMA7 where he starred in a number of television series. His last major TV project was in 2009. In June last year, Angeles maintained that the departure of Park cost him several projects. The Korean actress returned to her native country in 2007 to pursue a similar career there. She is now one-fourth of the popular K-pop girl group 2NE1.

To be released by Viva Films, “Fighting Chefs” will hit theaters nationwide on March 6.

Alodia Gosiengfiao to lead a J-Pop group

She rose to fame for donning different clothes and using make up to change her looks. But after being hailed as the country’s Cosplay Queen, 25-year old Alodia Gosiengfiao is now ready to embark on a new adventure as she leads a pop group in Japan.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Gosiengfiao shared that she was discovered in Singapore by a Japanese music producer who was judging a cosplay competition. Since then, Gosiengfiao has already recorded an album in Japan.

She said she had to learn how to speak Nihongo for her album, although she also recorded English versions of the songs.

“Actually, I sing in secret (laughs). I sing mostly Japanese songs, at home or sometimes in events but kasi mostly here in the Philippines, mostly birit. It’s hard to compete with that,” she said.

Gosiengfiao also showed ABS-CBN News the music video shoot of her J-pop girl group Super Dolls, which features two popular Japanese cosplayers.

“It’s a great honor but sobrang napre-pressure ako kasi syempre we have a lot of talented singers and talented artist here in the Philippines,” she said.

Aside from being a cosplayer, Gosiengfiao also hosts, acts and endorses products alongside popular celebrities in the Philippines. Recently, Gosiengfiao was named one of the ambassadors for the cable channel Animax Asia. She was also a co-host of the ABS-CBN show “Laugh Out Loud” and appeared in the Star Cinema movie “The Reunion.”

MTRCB summons ASAP 18 for Anne’s ‘over-provocative number’

The Movie Television Ratings and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned on Tuesday ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime variety show, “ASAP 18” over the alleged provocative outfit of one of its stars.

On Sunday’s “ASAP 18”, Anne Curtis had her birthday production number by perdorming Rihanna’s “Diamond” while being drenched with water, wearing a black strapless gown with a very high slit. Her performance and outfit soon went abuzz online. In the original Rihanna video, the American singer is shown singing naked submerged in an actual bath tub.

MTRCB posted the following on its official Twitter account on Tuesday, February 26.

“MTRCB summons ASAP to gender-sensitivity investigation over alleged provocative outfit of one of its stars last Sunday.” — MTRCB (@MTRCBgov) February 26, 2013

Anne on controversial outfit: ‘I was completely protected’. Anne Curtis posted a photo of her black strapless dress on Tuesday, February 26, to clarify the issue.

Anne explained that her outfit designed by Boom Sason was a “bodysuit with a hidden tangga.” She assured everyone that no wardrobe malfunction happened, contrary to what many believed.

On Tuesday afternoon, February 26, Anne posted:

“TAAAADAAA! I present to you the controversial @boomita outfit I wore for my birthday number on ASAP. As you can see we have a bodysuit with a hidden tangga to make way for the sky high slit skirt. It is made out of 2 pieces. In fact the “tangga” is made out of swimsuit material which Boom Sason is also known for making. I was completely protected. It may have seemed like a wardrobe malfunction to many but I can assure you, after making the mistake of not securing myself once I wouldn’t let that happen to me again. :) So to settle all your minds I just had to post this. Thank you to everyone that was concerned! To everyone that’s trying to make an issue out of it! Thank you! ABSCBN news just told me its their most clicked on video on their site ever! Just relax everyone! Wearing a tangga is no newbie in the industry! It’s been around since the 80′s :)

The Rise of Jackie Rice

One of GMA-7’s home-grown artists via the reality artista search “Starstruck,” Jackie Rice has managed to hold her own amidst the tough competition in her own network.

From being known as a “pasaway” when starting out in showbiz, the Kapuso actress has topbilled a number of afternoon soap operas. And while she can definitely go further in her career, Jackie is happy to be where she is right now.

“Kapag naghangad ako ng more, baka mawala pa,” she told members of the press during the launch of her latest show “Bukod Kang Pinagpala” on Tuesday, February 5.

Despite being the Ultimate Female Survivor of the third season of “Starstruck,” Jackie said she doesn’t demand for more high-profile projects from the network. She also doesn’t mind waiting for new projects. Her last television show “Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka?” ended August of last year.

“Mas okay naman yung ganun kaysa nakikipagkumpitensya ako sa iba. Mas ma-intriga rin yun. At least ito, may trabaho, mas tahimik. Mas okay ako sa ganito,” she explained.

Jackie added, “Hindi naman kailangan (magdemand). Happy ako.”

In “Bukod Kang Pinagpala,” which will premiere February 11 on GMA-7’s Afternoon Prime block, Jackie plays the role of a mother for the first time, together with Jennica Garcia and Camille Prats. Mark Anthony Fernandez plays their love interest.

“Yung role ko, sobrang ibang-ibang-iba,” she said.

“Challenging siya kasi first mother role ko. Dito, walang mabait, walang masama, so totoong tao. Walang bida, walang kontrabida.”

She’s also happy with her non-showbiz boyfriend of three years.

“Happy lang kami. Ine-enjoy lang namin kung ano meron ngayon,” Jackie said of her relationship.

Although they’re going strong, they have no plans of getting married soon.

“Kasi syempre, bago mag-start yung ganun, mag-iipon kayo together. Wala kaming ganun. Ine-enjoy lang naming ngayon,” she explained.

Tulungan kami.”

The actress noted she doesn’t want to end up like her now-separated parents.

“Marami kang dapat gawin muna sa buhay naming bago yung ganun. Kung sure na kaming kami talaga.”

Kathryn Bernardo is now closer to Daniel Padilla

Fans who have been following Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, one of the country’s hottest on-screen couples these days, are bound to realize that there are still more to learn about their idols that’ve dubbed themselves as MM (Magulong Magkaibigan).

Bulletin Entertainment did exclusive on Daniel Padilla a few days ago and now comes the other half of the phenomenal love team, Kathryn Bernardo.

Calling Daniel by his nickname, DJ, Kathryn summarizes their relationship, thus: “As a love team, okay naman po kami. Wala naman po masyadong pinagkaiba kasi close po talaga kami ni DJ on and off cam.”

Indeed, her work relationship with Daniel has come a long way since they met for the first time in 2010 via ABS-CBN’s “Showtime.”

“Normal naman po sa kahit sino na magka-ilangan sa una especially during ‘Growing Up’ (2011 teen drama series) days pero eventually naging magkaibigan kami. And after ng mga pinagsamahan namin na projects, mas close na po kami ngayon,” said Kathryn.

The tandem played support roles in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Sisterakas.” Reports have it that their launching movie will be out soon. And even while “Princess and I” – where Daniel and Kathryn play Gino and Mikay, respectively – is on its last days on the boob tube, the two Kapamilya stars are gearing for another teleserye.

Kathryn admitted that Daniel is both friend and confidante to her. She welcomes working with him anew whether in the movies or on TV.

“Kung ano man po ang plano nila (management) at kinakailangan sa amin bilang artista, wala pong problema. Malaki naman po ang tiwala namin sa ABS-CBN at Star Magic,” she said.

The budding drama teen actress is open to doing mature roles but only if “makakatulong po sa career ko.”

Sarah G. on Grammys?

Rumors that Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo is shortlisted in this year’s Grammys started circulating this week after the said piece of information was posted in the singer-actress’ official website.

But then, Viva Entertainment’s Vic del Rosario, popularly called “Boss Vic” in showbiz circles refuted the rumor. “Hindi ko alam kung saan galing yan.  Kausap ko nga si Sarah  (Geronimo) at wala kaming information tungkol diyan. Malamang kuryente yan.”

He also thinks that the rumor is baseless since the Grammys is already set next month (Feb. 10), and his office should have  received official communication from the said award-giving body about Sarah’s participation by this time.
