Gretchen claims ABS-CBN asked her to hush up on Angelica

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Controversial actress Gretchen Barretto admits ABS-CBN has prohibited her from commenting further on remarks that Angelica Panganiban supposedly made against her.

“May mga bawal na akong sabihin,” she said on the matter in a “TV Patrol” interview.

In a mocking tone, she added, “Hindi ako sanay na may bawal ako sabihin. Gusto ko free lang ako magsalita.”

The actress then pointed at people behind the camera, the ABS-CBN staff, saying, “Tignan mo, tignan mo sila…laging may mga nakabantay… I feel caged.”

ABS-CBN has a good reason to feel worried about the brewing word war between Barretto and Panganiban.

Only a few weeks earlier, the network had to deal with another word war involving “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame and ABS-CBN talent Jobert Sucaldito. The consequential furor put a question mark in the future of one of the network’s sacred cash cows after Revillame was ordered not to appear on his show for several months.

Barretto, who is on a comeback trail, stars in one of the network’s much-awaited — and spent on — series, “Magkaribal.”

Her word war against Panganiban stemmed from statements the former made during a recent promotional media blitz for the series, which co-stars, not coincidentally, Panganiban’s beau, actor Derek Ramsay.

Commenting on Ramsay’s upcoming South African vacation with Panganiban, Barretto said: “Masa-sad ako siyempre kasi wala ng kwento. Hihintayin ko ‘yong mga kwento niya (Ramsay). Pictures na lang, hihintayin ko mga pictures niya. Solo pictures lang ha. (looking at Ramsay) Gusto ko ikaw lang, walang iba.”

Barretto, who admitted in previous interviews that she has a “crush” on Ramsay, openly hugged the actor on cam.

These supposedly so incensed Panganiban, who took to Twitter to write messages seemingly alluding to Barretto.

Her first Tweet read, “Totoo nga… Nakakaloka pala talaga. Oh well… Nakakaawa ka.. Mukhang di ka masaya.. Goodnight.”

On another tweet she said, “Tarrrraaaayyy!!! Single ka teh? :)

Although Panganiban didn’t confirm if the messages were about or for Barretto, she didn’t deny it either.

“Nasa mga tao na ‘yon kung sino sa tingin nila ang gusto kong paringgan. Huwag sana akong idamay sa promotion (of ‘Magkaribal’). Kasi kung gusto niyang (Barretto) mag-promote, mag-promote siyang mag-isa,” she said on “Showbiz News Ngayon.”

JOVIT – Pilipinas Got Talent Grand Winner

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – “Pilipinas Got Talent” (PGT) grand winner Jovit Baldivino said he will use his P2-million cash prize to help his family.

The 16-year-old singer told ABS-CBN News that he is planning to buy a vacant lot for his family, send his siblings to school and help his parents financially.

“Bibili po ako ng lupa kasi nangungupahan lang kami. Papaaralin ko ang mga kapatid ko, [at] matutulungan ko na ang magulang ko,” he said.

The first PGT grand winner, who hails from Batangas, also advised other aspiring and struggling singers not to stop dreaming. “Huwag kayong mawawalan ng pag-asa… Magtiwala kayo sa sarili at siyempre sa Diyos.”

His parents, Cristeta and Larry, have one wish for their son.

“Sana huwag kang magbago. Nandito lang kami para sumuporta lagi sa’yo,” Larry said.

Baldivino was declared the first PGT grand winner during the talent-reality show’s finale Sunday night at the jampacked Araneta Coliseum. The teenager, who sells siomai in Batangas, has topped (48.81%) the overnight text and online votes.

Dance groups Baguio Metamorphosis and Velasco Brothers were hailed runners up. They received P100,000 cash prize each.

PGT judge Kris Aquino described Baldivino as ABS-CBN’s next singing superstar after his heartfelt rendition of Queen’s “Too Much Love Will Kill You.”

His fans, who called themselves Jovinatics, went in full force at the Big Dome to show their support.

He already created a mark during his audition after singing The Journey’s “Faithfully.” His video was uploaded on YouTube and was viewed more than 3 million times.

He was then dubbed as the next Arnel Pineda, with the striking resemblance of his voice to that of the Filipino international artist.

PGT’s finale was hosted by Luis Manzano and Iya Villania. Watch the replay of both the final performance and results night on Studio 23 this Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m.

For Tourism Secretary I am Qualified – Boy Abunda

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – TV talk show host Boy Abunda on Wednesday said he was hurt by insinuations that an entertainer like himself is unfit to join the Cabinet of incoming President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Speaking on Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN) on Wednesday, Abunda said he was offended by comments saying entertainers are not qualified to become high-ranking government officials.

Aquino earlier said he was considering Abunda as his tourism secretary. (Click here for story.)

“At ngayon araw po, lumabas ang balita, at dito po ako medyo napipikon, sasabihin ko po sa inyo ang totoo. Kahit sinabi ko na po that I am inclined to decline two days ago, kung sakasakaling bigyan ako ng offer. Si Boy Abunda ay hindi inooffer, ay hindi tatanggapin dapat ang offer ng Secretary of Department of Tourism dahil siya ay hindi marketing man, dahil siya ay hindi abugado at he is just an entertainer.

“I take offense, sasabihin ko po iyan. I am an entertainer but I am not just an entertainer. Dahil gusto ko pong malaman ng mga taong nagsasalita na hindi po madali ang aming ginagawa. Ang puhunan po namin ay utak, puso, pawis, dugo, and to do what we do is not easy. This is not an easy job. And yes, I am proudly an entertainer,” he said.

Selling the Philippines

Abunda pointed out that a major task of the head of the Department of Tourism (DoT) is to sell the Philippines’ entertainment attractions, which includes its rich cultural heritage.

“Sa mga nagtatrabaho sa Department of Tourism, this is what you’re missing out. A large part of the job of the Department of Tourism actually is to sell the entertainment angle of this country.

“It’s entertainment that should draw so many people around the world to come to this country, entertainment in the form of food, national heritage, dance, destinations….It is also entertainment that should convince locals to travel around the country.”

Abunda also said he was not ashamed of his job, and that, in fact, he was proud to be an entertainer.

“I am just an entertainer. I am a serious entertainer. At ikinararangal ko po maging isang entertainer,” he said.

He thanked president-apparent Aquino for considering him to be tourism secretary.

Not financially ready

However, he said he was not financially ready to join government.

“Nais ko lamang malaman ninyo na naiintidihan ko po that when one is given the chance to serve in government, to occupy a government post, dapat kayo po ay intellectually ready, dapat emotionally ready, at financially ready.

“Intellectually ready, we can debate about it, it’s debatable. Emotionally ready, it’s judgment call. You know yourselves, you know when you are emotionally ready for some things.

“Financially ready, mga kaibigan, hindi po ako financially ready. Matagal na po akong nagtatrabaho dito sa industriyang ito. Nakaipon na po ng kaunti para sa komportableng buhay ng Nanay, ako at ng aking kapatid at ang aming maliit na pamilya. If I lose my job tomorrow, hindi po ako magsisinungaling, I am OK.

“Pero kung ako’y papasok po sa isang government post, wala po akong perang gagastusin pang-araw-araw. Kaya sinasabi ko po, I am not financially ready because I need a few years para mag-ipon. Sakasakali kung ako’y magdesisyon to join government, meron po akong disposable income ika nga.”

Abunda also said he was still happy working in the entertainment industry, so he would rather not join government yet.

“Mga Kapamilya, mga kaibigan, I am happiest where I am right now. I cannot complain. I am happiest in the entertainment industry. I am blessed with a wonderful career. To get where I am today, kahit maliit po ang espasyong ito, was not easy. It was a difficult journey, pinaghirapan ko po ito,” he said.

He also clarified that Aquino has not made him a formal offer to join his Cabinet, so there is nothing to either accept or reject.

Will honor contract with ABS-CBN

Abunda also said he was not ready to join government since he still has a contract to honor with ABS-CBN, which expires in 2011.

“At ngayon kung tatanungin n’yo po ako, bakit nahihirapan po akong magdesisyon, halimbawa kung sakasakali mang may offer. There are contracts to be fulfilled there are commitments to be fulfilled, there are talents to be discovered, there are talk shows to be produced, there are studies to be finished. Ang dami ko pa pong trabahong gagawin. Isa po ‘yan sa mga dahilan.

“Nagsasara po ba akong pintuan? Am I closing my doors? I have a contract in ABS-CBN that I’d like to honor that will last until the end of 2011. I will respect and honor that contract.

“Am I interested, am I closing my doors? I’m not closing my doors. But is that gonna happen now? No, it is not going to happen now. So doon po sa mga nagsasabing hindi ko dapat tanggapin or tanggapin ko, sinabi ko na po, no, I am not going to take the offer. Ang mga dahilan ay sinabi ko na po lahat sa inyo ngayon gabi.”

As a private citizen and friend of the Aquino family, Abunda said he is able to tell Aquino his ideas on various issues, and he would like this kind of relationship to continue.

“What is my relationship po with Noy Aquino? Alam n’yo po mga kaibigan, I’m able to write him memos, I’m able to write him short notes, I’m able to say and express things to him about matters that are relevant to the presidency, matters that are relevant to the country. Maraming bagay po.

“Ang iba ay kanyang binabasa, pinasasalamatan niya po ako. Ang iba naman po ay siguro narinig na rin po niya sa iba.

I would like to be able to continue serving my future president by being able to tell him honestly, without bias without agenda, political and personal interest. And to me that is the best place in the world today. I don’t want to change it.”

Abunda said those interested in becoming secretary of tourism should not worry since he is not yet prepared to accept a government job.

“Ok. Babalikan ko po ang tanong. Hypothetical. If and when I am offered the post of Secretary of Tourism, will I accept? The answer is no. Doon sa mga interesado sa posisyon, makakatulog na po kayo ng mahimbing.”

“Hayaan ninyo po. Pinipilit ko po araw-araw na malagpasan pa kung ano ang nagawa ko noong nakaraang araw. Alam ninyo naman na ako ay [a] man of few words. Akalain mo, ngayon dapat ay maging madaldal [ako]. Iyan ay mahirap,” he added.
The action star also refused to be discouraged by critisim thrown at him since he replaced Revillame.

Is Kc up for the challenge?

Friday, May 14th, 2010

KC Concepcion earned her popularity even when she was a baby because of her famous parents, Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion.

Now that she has entered the world of entertainment, there’s just no stopping for this freespirited woman. She entered theater, graced dozens of magazine covers and television commercials, starred in various television programs, and top-billed movies. Not to mention that she is also the Ambassador against hunger given by the United Nation’s World food program.

A  new challenge confronts her as she accepted co-hosting duties with the country’s King and Queen of Talk, Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino, in The Buzz.  Her first hosting was the MTV Asia’s VJ. And she only started accepting offers from ABS – CBN after she finished her college in the American University of Paris last 2007.

KC has proven her worth in almost all entertainment platforms, from theater to film, from recording to television, and now, sharpening her hosting skills via The Buzz. Indeed, KC substantiates the word versatile.

Luis Manzano says drama is more demanding than action

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Luis Manzano Aside from lifting weights and running the  treadmill, Luis Manzano also practices muaythai and mma (mixed martial arts). His looks and his skills definitely read “action star material.” But why does he prefer doing drama more over action movies? “I think drama is more fulfilling. It has more demands, more emotions used,” answered Luis.

Luis Manzano had to give up his hosting job in Entertainment Live for ABS-CBN’s new talent show, Pilipinas Got Talent.

“I will be gone for six weeks, since I have to go around the Philippines for PGT,” Luis said in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) recently. Luis will tour with co-host Billy Crawford to scout for Pinoy talents who’ll peform in front of celebrity judges Kris Aquino, Ai-Ai delas Alas, and former ABS-CBN president Freddie M. Garcia.

Aside from PGT, Luis is slated to start a movie with the Young Superstar Judy Ann Santos and Popstar Princess and box-office queen Sarah Geronimo. “The title of the movie is Hating Kapatid,” informed Luis about his movie with Juday and Sarah which will be under Viva Films.

Bayani’s show to match up ABS-CBN’s “Showtime”!

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Reportedly, GMA-7 was already planned to put Comedian Bayani Agbayani on a  Game Show hosted by him. The show which will occupy the space vacated by “Sis” to compete with ABS-CBN’s controversial talent show, “Showtime”.

Bayani-AgbayaniCurrently, the time slot of “Sis” was replaced with the showing of Pilipino blockbuster movies after it went off to air.
GMA-7 already planned to mixed up Bayani Agbayani with People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao and her mom, Dionisia Pacquiao.
Consequently, changes happens in casting with Bayani Agbayani retains at its host. Former host of “Sis” Carmina VIllaroel and Gelli de Belen will join bayani in the show.

But Bayani Agbayani seems to have no match with Showtime’s hosts Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro and Kim Atienza. And there’s an information that GMA-7 stop plugging the show of Bayani as they feel it’s a suicide on their part to compete the popularity of “Showtime”

Almost two months since “Showtime” replaced Kapamilya shows “Ruffa & Ai”, hosted by Ruffa Gutierrez and Ai Ai Delas Alas and “Pilipinas, Game Ka Na Ba?” by Edu Manzano.
A grapevine divulged that GMA-7 sold its “Sis” time slot to TAPE Inc., the producer of “Eat Bulaga”, thus, TAPE Inc., has now the right to produce any show to compete with “Showtime”.

Recently, “Showtime” became controversial after an episode which guest judge Rosanna Roces spoke about school teachers being a repeater and some defaming words. MTRCB ordered a 20-day suspension on ‘Showtime’, but yesterday, the order was lifted and it began to air again.

Showtime returns on air after suspension

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

UntitledShowtime returns on air today  January 19 after seven days of being suspended byMovie and Television Review and Classification Board(MTRCB).

“ABS-CBN is happy to announce that the talent-variety program Showtime will return on-air starting tomorrow, 19 Jan 2010, following the issuance of a temporary restraining order by the Court of Appeals enjoining the MTRCB from continuing to enforce the preventive suspension order on the show.

“We welcome the CA resolution dated 15 January 2010, which states: ‘For reasons afore-stated, and as prayed for by petitioner, let a TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER be issued, as it is hereby issued, effective sixty (60) days from notice hereof, enjoining respondent MTRCB, including any and all persons acting in their behalf and under their command and authority, from continuing to enforce the Preventive Suspension Order dated January 11, 2010 issued against petitioner, pending the resolution of the instant petition.’”

Showtime’s suspension resulted after guest judge Rosanna Roces made a comment about teachers after one member of a group contestant failed to answer her question about National Hero Jose Rizal on its January 7 live episode.

The MTRCB also explained that this incident was already the second violation of the celebrity judge. The show was also warned about Rosanna’s remark about Showtime’s resident judge Vice Ganda on its January 4 live episode.

Celebrities’ talents on ‘Magpasikat’

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Due to the suspension of the talent-reality show “Showtime” for  20 days, Showtime replaced by “Magpasikat”. Unlike Showtime, this show will showcase the talents of celebrities.

The suspension rooted from the statement of Rosanna Roces pertaining to teachers. She said, they (teachers) are just repeaters.

Evening the same day, “showtime” made a public announcement that was broadcasted by Boy Abunda in his late night show “Showbiz News Ngayon” (SNN) saying the management of the show is suspending Rosanna Roces.

Even though self regulations were imposed, still they received suspension from MTRCB. And since the order is effective immediately, ABS-CBN stopped the airing of the show.

MTRCB suspends Showtime for 20 days

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Oo, dahil ang mga teachers, they were just repeaters.

ABS-CBN OFFICIAL STATEMENT.

“In the spirit of self-regulation, ABS-CBN removed Rosanna Roces as a judge in SHOWTIME after she made statements against the teachers in the January 7 live show. But despite this, MTRCB still imposed a 20-day preventive suspension for the program.

“A preventive suspension is issued to stop further violations, if there were any committed, or for the interest or welfare of the public. Thus, the network questions the need for said preventive suspension when Rosanna Roces has already been removed from the program.

“SHOWTIME is a highly entertaining show watched by many Filipinos. It helps promote and showcase the creativity and talent of kapamilyas nationwide, uplifts their spirit and provides opportunities to improve their lives.”

ABS-CBN is planning to make an appeal to lift the suspension. The network was reportedly surprised by the MTRCB’s swift decision because they are set to meet on Thursday, Jan. 14, to talk about the issue.
