MANILA, Philippines — Singer Martin Nievera was being “artistic and creative” and not irreverent when he sang the Philippine national anthem in Manny Pacquiao’s historic match with Ricky Hatton, a lawmaker said on Tuesday.
Akbayan partylist Representative Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel defended Nievera’s rendition of the “Lupang Hinirang,” which was deemed inappropriate by the National Historical Institute (NHI).
For me the rendition of Martin Nievera to Lupang Hinirang sounds good, I dont think it will affect the filipinos to be less nationalistic.
MANILA, Philippines – Singer Martin Nievera on Monday said his version of the national anthem only reflected the “march feel” that the song originally had. Besides, Nievera said it was boxing legend Manny Pacquiao who had asked him to sing the anthem that way.
