Carla Abellana’s all set to become a Kapamilya

After all the rumors that the GMA-7 star Carla Abella is set to switch network,  now it is confirmed that she is poised up and ready to be a new Kapamilya.

A source confirmed to Manila Bulletin Online Entertainment that Carla is without a doubt leaving her home studio. Her camp has negotiated for her to move to ABS-CBN, as her contract with GMA is about to expire this month.

Also, the same source said that Carla and her manager Arnold Vegafria did consider many things but then again what came up with their decision is that the networks priorities when it comes to giving projects to its roster of talents.

“Ang priorities daw kasi sa Siyete ay sina Marian Rivera, Barbie Forteza at Bea Binene in that order,” said the source.

Carla is also avoiding the rumors that there was no offer from ABS-CBN, in a report last Feb 1 on PEP, she said that, ” “Hindi ko pa nababasa ‘yong offer ng ABS-CBN.

She also asked for time off from GMA after completing her soap.

“Humingi ako ng ilang linggong pahinga para rin ma-take ko ‘yong opportunity na makapag-isip din ako at ma-clear ko ‘yong head ko,” she said in the PEP interview.

Carla is surely making a big step toward her career.

“Sabi ko nga, hindi na ako bumabata. Hindi naman ako puwede na teeny-bopper forever. Career, roles… ano pa ang ibang magagawa ko? Sino pa ang ibang puwede kong makatrabaho?” she explained.

Carla was launched by GMA in 2009 via the Philippine version of the Mexicanovela “Rosalinda” where she was paired with Geoff Eigenmann. This was followed by another pairing in “Magic Palayok.”

Carla Abellana: Torn Between Two Movies

Regal Baby Carla Abellana has two movie entries in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival. She will play the role of Charlotte in ‘Yesterday Today Tomorrow’ and ER Ejercito’s leading lady in ‘Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story’. Carla’s appearance in The Asiong Salonga story created a conflict in her contract with Regal Films.

ER Ejercito told the press that Carla is being prohibited by Regal to promote their movie that’s why the actress wasn’t able show up in the press conference of The Asiong Salonga Story.

“Siya ang humaharang. Ayaw niyang mag-promote si Carla, e…Ang banggit sa akin ni Carla at ng kanyang manager na si Arnold Vegafria, ‘pag sila daw ay nag-promote, o pupunta sa presscon, sasakay sa float sa December 24, at kapag nanood sa premiere night, e, idedemanda raw ng Regal Films,” said ER Ejercito.

On the other hand, Carla denied that there is a legal threat posted against her and her manager by Regal. She said that Mother Lily has nothing to do with her absence in The Asiong Salonga Story’s press conference. According to her, she is just so busy that she doesn’t even have time to promote Yesterday Today Tomorrow, which is her priority being Regal’s exclusive artist.

Meanwhile, Mother Lily issued a statement on Twitter to clarify the issue:

“I would like to clarify ER Ejercito’s recent statements regarding our contract star Carla Abellana who he contracted to appear in his movie. Firstly, Carla is an exclusive contract artist of Regal Films. Both her and her manager Arnold Vegafria did not ask our permission to be part of ER’s movie. It is not true that Carla has an option to do 1 movie out of Regal. She does not. All I expect from my contract stars is the respect from them and their managers to honor their commitments. May we also suggest to ER to check his facts first before making such statements. Neither do we wish this situation to be used as an issue to generate publicity. The issue is clear neither Carla or her manager Arnold Vegafria asked for permission to shoot this movie with ER and as such are in breach of their signed contract. We have other contract stars who we have lent to other productions. In fact Marian Rivera is in Panday. She is also an exclusive star of Regal but all proper protocol was followed. Let us all respect each other so that we can work harmoniously to rebuild our industry.”

The story revolves in two modern couples (Jake and Carla, Dennis and Lovi) who have different lifestyles. Jake and Carla play the role of the rich couple, Bullet and Jasmine. Bullet is said-to-be a co-owner of a bar and Jasmine is a housewife. However, Dennis and Lovi are the working-class couple, Aaron and Cielo. Aaron is medical-school graduate who fails in business ventures thereby gets a loan from Bullet to finance his auto-repair shop. Cielo is a medical representative who loves luxury items to complement her looks. The four characters become close friends yet their friendship turn sour because of their marital infidelity.

The stars admit they have grown more as actors and have conquered their fear through the mature role they portray in the film. Like the case of Carla Abellana, this has been her first time to be daring in a movie or a show and she got through it with the help of the entire cast and crew.

It is also noticeable how the lead stars fit the characters that they portray. With Lovi’s sexy and alluring body, she is able use her physical assets and combines it with the different aspects of the Cielo’s like being sensual, sensitive, impulsive, humble, funny, persevering which results to an exact portrayal of Cielo. In the movie, Carla is exactly what Jasmine is. Her calm personality paired with the character’s good-natured and kindness, with a bit of a jealous and revengeful housewife, she made her way to also stand-out in this movie. The hunks, Jake and Dennis, added sizzle to the story.

The movie also entails the characters’ lives after the marital infidelity.

Ayon kay Gina, hindi ito ang first time na magkakasama sila ni Geoff sa isang project.

“I’ve worked with Geoffrey, bata pa siya. When I directed a youth-oriented program here in GMA, it’s called Next. Pagkatapos nun, noong bata kasi siya, in and out ‘yan. Kapag bumababa ang grades sa eskuwela, hinto. Kapag maganda ang grades, pasok ng artista. Tapos, the next time ko na siyang nadirek was for Kirara. I have acted with him in Maalaala [Mo Kaya]. We played mother and son also. Yun ang last,” lahad ni Gina sa panayam sa kanya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

So far, nakita ba niya ang improvements ni Geoff sa pag-arte since siya ang masasabing number one critic ng anak?

“Well, he is improving little by little,” sabi ni Gina. “Lalo na dun sa pagsasalita niya. Nag-improve na siya sa kanyang emotional responsibilities when it comes to acting. Ang napansin ko sa kanya, like yesterday was our first taping day, of course, inaalalayan ko siya nang konti and Direk Mac Alejandre is there to guide him also. But there are things also na gusto kong i-correct sa kanya na sinasabi ko na, ‘Anak, ganito ang gawin mo, ganyan.’ Kaya dalawa ang director niya.

“Actually, ibinubulong ko lang sa kanya at nakukuha naman niya agad. I remember in Kirara when I directed him, he was very young then, ipinapakita ko pa sa kanya kung ano ang gagawin. As in, I would demonstrate to him kung ano ang gagawin. Ngayon, nabi-visualize na niya kung ano ang gagawin.”
