Charice: ‘I’m on Glee, let’s party!!!’

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – International singing sensation Charice said on Twitter Tuesday that she is set to join the second season of the hit US musical TV show “Glee”.

“It’s official. I’m on Glee (next season)…,” Charice announced on her Twitter account.

The young singer maintained that the first rumor of her joining the “Glee” cast was not true.

“But then after that I tried to audition. And I made it! Let’s party!” the obviously rejoicing Charice tweeted.

Charice will play the role of a foreign exchange student whose killer vocals get lead star Rachel contemplating murder.

Last month, Charice vehemently denied a newspaper report saying she is set to join the next season of “Glee.”

The report quoted Charice’s Philippine manager Grace Mendoza.

Charice’s mother, Raquel Pempengco, said in a previous interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com that she has no idea about Mrs. Mendoza’s statement.

Charice even posted her denial on her Twitter page.

“I just want to let you all know that it’s not true that I’m going to be on Glee… How I wish! Haha.”

She added: “LOL. Rumors!!! I am not going to be on Glee..Haha…That’s really funny. I didn’t know about the Glee (role). Hahaha, until I saw Perez’s blog. This is really confusing.”

Currently, Charice is in the US promoting her debut global album, which was launched in “The Oprah Winfrey Show” last May 10.

TORONTO, Canada – There’s no stopping international singing sensation Charice’s rise to stardom. This weekend, she wowed the biggest crowd the Eaton Centre mall in Toronto has ever seen.

The huge crowd, mostly Filipinos, waited for hours to watch Charice perform songs from her album like “Pyramid.”

The Filipino star could hardly believe the turnout. She said she wants to go back soon for a full concert.

“Dream ko to own song ko kinakanta nila. Nakakatuwa alam nila lyrics… sobrang the best, sobrang suporta ng mga Pinoy. Hindi lang mga Pinoy ang daming nagpunta na ibang lahi. Sobrang happy ako,” Charice said.

Charice also clarified a report that she was supposedly cast in the television series, “Glee.” “Nagulat ako siyempre. At the same time flattered ako kasi malaking series… isa lang malaking rumor.”

She added that something she shared about a TV guesting in the States may have been misunderstood.“

“Gusto ko lang linawin, ang sinabi ko show, hindi series. Kasi parang maga-appear sa isang show, not series. Talagang napaka-clear ng sinabi ko, show. Mag-guest po ako sa ‘Regis and Kelly’ this coming June 16,” she said.

Fans of Charice were disappointed upon learning that her Glee casting was not true.

“Masaya sana kung talagang napili siya sa ‘Glee.’ Talagang pang-international na siya,” said Grace Yu, a fan of Charice.

Charice admitted that it is her dream to be part of “Glee.” Just like the dream she’s living now, as her song climbs the billboard charts all over North America. -Report by Marieton Pacheco, ABS-CBN News Toronto (Read more on Yahoo! Philippines Entertainment News)

Charice: A Rising Asian Popstar in the US?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Her 2nd international single, “Pyramid,” has already reached the top of the latest Billboard dance/club play chart, but singing sensation Charice still shies away from the possibility that she might become the first Asian top pop star in the United States.

“It’s really hard to go international, so that’s why I’m not expecting it right now. I love the record, but I don’t know if it will go far,” Charice told New York Daily News.

The Daily News told the singer that she might be the first Asian to become a major pop singer in the US if her recently released self-titled album turns into a bestseller there.

If it happens, Charice said it will not only be a “really big privilege for me” but a “big responsibility” as well. “It would show that Asians are really talented and can make it everywhere.”

In the interview, the 18-year-old pint-sized Filipino singer expressed surprise that many Americans were shocked by her huge voice. She said in the Philippines “it’s not such a big deal because there are a lot of little people there and a lot of them have big voices.”

“It feels weird to me that people are so surprised. But I do think, it’s one of the reasons I made it,” she said.

Charice also narrated how she made it in the international music scene and how Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres discovered her talent.

Charice officially launched her 1st international album on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on May 11.
