Manny Pacquiao will wear a yellow gloves to fight poverty!

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will battle fist to fist with “Sugar” Shane Mosley to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight championship belt. It will be held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7, 2011(Saturday) at 9:00 p.m and will be broadcast here in the Philippines on May 8, 10:00am.

The moment our People’s Champ step into the boxing ring wearing yellow gloves, he will not be fighting with Mosley only but also for our country’s poverty. It  is a first time in boxing history to wear a yellow gloves because the traditional color used by boxers are red, blue, or burgundy.

Chino Trinidad was able to interview Manny Pacquiao last Thursday on News to Go and Pacman said that he chose the color yellow “to signify the unity of the Filipino people across the globe.” Boxing is not the biggest fight of my life, eradicating poverty is now the biggest fight of my life”, Manny said.

Trinidad also spilled that Pacquiao is encouraging all the people who will watch his fight against Mosley to wear something yellow too as a sign of the unity of the Filipinos to battle against poverty.

The foreign media thought that it was “the most eloquent speech” they have ever heard from a boxer as they covered Pacquiao’s presscon in Las Vegas.

“Coming from him who barely made it to high school, at laging pinagtatawanan dahil sa kaniyang balu-baluktot na English, ipinarating ni Manny ang kaniyang mensahe na hindi niya titigilan ang kaniyang laban sa kahirapan,” Trinidad said.

It is very essential for Manny to fight against poverty because he was one of the poor families born in General Santos City and was raised by his mother alone after his parents separated. He wasn’t able to fiish high school due to tremendous poverty.

Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao is a man who wears many hats, meaning that he has many roles in life. Apart from being a boxing champion and a congressman, he is also an actor, singer, husband and father. And now, his new role is a “fighter” of poverty.

Be sure to watch and support our People’s champ as he defends his title from Mosley and fight against our poverty this Sunday!

It is said that a ring worth P180, 000 owned Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao was lost.

The world boxer’s mom said that the ring might slip on her finger when she was in General Santos City in Sarangani last Friday, April 2.

World boxer Pacman’s mom’s been keeping the ring for almost eleven years which was given by her daughter-in-law Jinky Pacquiao.

She tried to look for the ring last Saturday but she failed, that’s why she just asked if anybody could find it. She prepared a reward for the person who could bring the ring back to her.

Despite the loss of her expensive ring, Mommy Dionisia wouldn’t ask her son Manny Pacquiao a replacement.

Pacquiao loses over Mayweather on Yahoo!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao may have won a seat in Congress but Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s performance against Shane Mosley made him lose his pound-for-pound top ranking in Yahoo! Sports.
According to the Yahoo! Sports list issued by its boxing reporter Kevin Iole, Mayweather outpointed Pacquiao by 6 points in voting conducted by an elite panel of boxing writers from around the world.
Mayweather, who is Ring Magazine’s No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter, received 20 off the 33 first place votes for a total of 317 points while Pacquiao received 13 of 33 first places votes for 310.
In his analysis, Iole said Mayweather “showed complete game in [his] convincing win over Mosley.”
Pacquiao, however, still enjoys Ring Magazine’s No. 1 pound-for-pound ranking.
Iole, meanwhile, said in his report that he hopes the camps of Pacquiao and Mayweather will thresh out their differences to finally arrange the biggest fight to date.
“Hopefully, [Top Rank chief Bob] Arum, [Golden Boy chief Richard] Schaefer, Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz, Mayweather advisor Al Haymon and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe can work out a deal to make it happen,” he said.
Rounding off Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound list are:
Paul Williams (No. 3)
Juan Manuel Marquez (No. 4)
Chad Dawson (No. 5)
Sergio Martinez (No. 6)
Wladimir Klitschko (No. 7)
Timothy Bradley (No. 8 )
Shane Mosley (No. 9)
Juan Manuel Lopez (No. 10).

Manny Pacquiao rushed in the hospital

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

World welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao was admitted to hospital to treat a mild stomach ulcer and allow him to rest after campaigning for the May 10 congressional elections.
Pacquiao’s chief of staff, Jayke Joson, said Monday that doctors discovered the 31-year-old boxer had an ulcer during a routine checkup Sunday and his family convinced him to stay in a suburban Manila hospital for a few days.
“Really, Manny can only rest if you confine him to a hospital,” Joson told The Associated Press, adding Pacquiao was receiving intravenous dextrose drips. “It’s been so intense a campaign, he missed some of his meals.”
Pacquiao’s boxing promoters are working toward a possible bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr., or another fighter, as early as November.
Pacquiao’s mother, Dionisia, told The AP her son was well and may be discharged from the hospital later Monday or Tuesday.
Pacquiao won a seat in the Philippine’s powerful House of Representatives, which he will assume on June 30. Aside from preparing to enter the political arena, Pacquiao is yet to complete advertisements for products ranging from food to sports items, Joson said.
Promoter Bob Arum has said he’ll soon start talking to Mayweather’s camp about putting together the world’s top two welterweights for a Nov. 13 bout in Las Vegas or Texas.
Arum said he hoped to match Pacquiao against former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito if talks with Mayweather fall through.

The People’s Champ was Taken to the Hospital

Monday, May 24th, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao was taken to a hospital on Sunday for a stomach ailment, but his lawyer said it was not serious and that he would likely be out the next day.

Pacquiao, who was recently elected as a legislator, was taken to a suburban hospital in Manila after feeling pains in his stomach, said lawyer Jesus Gacal.

“It was just his usual acid reflux. The doctor told me there is nothing to worry about,” Gacal told AFP.

“There was even no need for him to be confined but he wanted to take a rest after the (election) campaign,” the lawyer added.

He said Pacquiao had suffered from this stomach problem before.

The 31-year-old fighter, who was elected on May 10 to represent the impoverished southern province of Sarangani, has been preparing to take up his post in the Philippine parliament.

Boxing promoters are also working to arrange a bout between Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather in November, to settle once and for all the fighters’ claim to be the best fighter, pound-for-pound, of his generation.

Pacquiao has said he can handle the simultaneous burdens of being a legislator and training for a major fight, remarking that this required only proper “time management.”

Boxing victories as well as his commercial endorsements last year made Pacquiao the world’s sixth-highest paid athlete, with earnings of 40 million US dollars, according to Forbes magazine. (read more on AFP and Yahoo Philippines News!)

Manny Pacquiao is willing to take the blood test as long as they’re not done close to the fight. The 31-year-old Filipino, who just became the first boxer in history ever to be elected to Congress. He said “Huwag lang sa day ng fight (Never on fight day),” the reigning WBO welterweight champion said Tuesday evening during a visit to President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Manny Pacquiao Vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. will happen this year!

Friday, May 14th, 2010

MANNY Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is confident that the most awaited fight of the century will with Floyd Mayweather Jr. will happen this year
Rick Reeno of boxingscene.com reported that Roach laughed off the comments made by Mayweather adviser Leonard Ellerbe, who was quoted by David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press as saying: “Ain’t nobody thinking about Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum or Freddie Roach. Floyd isn’t thinking about none of them, and there ain’t no negotiations starting, period. Floyd is just coming off a great win. He’s not thinking about any of them.”
But Roach thinks otherwise.
“Come on, we all know what he’s thinking about. He knows Arum was in the Philippines talking with Manny. The fight is going to happen this year. I can’t see it not happening. Arum and (Richard) Schaefer are great negotiators…they will work it out.”
Arum earlier told Manila Standard that he will disregard all comments until he gets into a room with Mayweather’s representatives to negotiate.
“I am not going to tip my hand and I’m not going to attack him and say that’s absurd. That doesn’t get us any place. This is a negotiation that I’m going to go into hoping that I can make this happen,” Arum said.
The Top Rank promoter said both the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas are available for Nov.13, which he confirmed will be the date of congressman-elect Manny Pacquiao’s first fight.
The Filipino ring icon scored a stunning upset by defeating his wealthy rival 6-year-old Roy Chiongbian for the lone congressional seat in Sarangani province.
Despite his desire for Team Pacquiao members to stop discussing a possible Mayweather fight, Roach continued to talk. “It’s going to be a 50-50 split. No doubt about it. This won’t be an issue because that part of the negotiations was already settled.”
Talking about the random drug tests demanded by Mayweather, which resulted in previous negotiations for a fight falling through, Roach told boxingscene.com: “I think we’ll meet them halfway on the testing. It’s going to happen.”
Mayweather demanded a 14-day cutoff for the random drug tests conducted by the US Anti Doping Agency, while Pacquiao agreed to a 24-day cutoff.
Theoretically, a halfway point would be a 19-day deadline, but there’s been no indication that Pacquiao would change his original stand.
Roach said Mayweather fought flat-footed, he was hittable and a bit slower on his feet against Shane Mosley in a recent fight which he won unanimously. He still feels Mayweather has very fast hands, but doesn’t consider them to be quicker than those of Pacquiao. If Pacquiao hurts Mayweather in the same manner as Mosley, Roach doesn’t see Mayweather being able to escape to the next round.
“He’s (Mayweather) hittable and anyone Manny can hit I have no fear of. I don’t see no good defense. He makes the same moves every time in the same way. He’s very predictable. He’s fast, but Manny is faster,” Roach told Reeno.

Pacman, One last Fight?

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

After securing a seat in the Philippine Congress by a landslide, local media reported Wednesday. The world boxing champion Manny Pacquio is ready for one last fight.

“I asked my mom, can I please fight one more time? She said ‘okay’,” Pacquiao was quoted as saying by the ABS-CBN news portal as he awaited formal confirmation of his election victory in the southern province of Sarangani.

”I asked my mom, can I please fight one more time? She said ‘okay’,” Pacquiao was quoted as saying by the ABS-CBN news portal as he awaited formal confirmation of his election victory in the southern province of Sarangani.

“The cable television companies and satellite providers have put the date aside for us, so the table is set,” said the flamboyant Top Rank boss.

Pacquiao mulls legal action vs rumormongers

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Parang they are trying talaga na paghiwalayin kaming dalawa. What kind of people are they? Amazing!”
