Carla Abellana: Torn Between Two Movies

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Regal Baby Carla Abellana has two movie entries in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival. She will play the role of Charlotte in ‘Yesterday Today Tomorrow’ and ER Ejercito’s leading lady in ‘Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story’. Carla’s appearance in The Asiong Salonga story created a conflict in her contract with Regal Films.

ER Ejercito told the press that Carla is being prohibited by Regal to promote their movie that’s why the actress wasn’t able show up in the press conference of The Asiong Salonga Story.

“Siya ang humaharang. Ayaw niyang mag-promote si Carla, e…Ang banggit sa akin ni Carla at ng kanyang manager na si Arnold Vegafria, ‘pag sila daw ay nag-promote, o pupunta sa presscon, sasakay sa float sa December 24, at kapag nanood sa premiere night, e, idedemanda raw ng Regal Films,” said ER Ejercito.

On the other hand, Carla denied that there is a legal threat posted against her and her manager by Regal. She said that Mother Lily has nothing to do with her absence in The Asiong Salonga Story’s press conference. According to her, she is just so busy that she doesn’t even have time to promote Yesterday Today Tomorrow, which is her priority being Regal’s exclusive artist.

Meanwhile, Mother Lily issued a statement on Twitter to clarify the issue:

“I would like to clarify ER Ejercito’s recent statements regarding our contract star Carla Abellana who he contracted to appear in his movie. Firstly, Carla is an exclusive contract artist of Regal Films. Both her and her manager Arnold Vegafria did not ask our permission to be part of ER’s movie. It is not true that Carla has an option to do 1 movie out of Regal. She does not. All I expect from my contract stars is the respect from them and their managers to honor their commitments. May we also suggest to ER to check his facts first before making such statements. Neither do we wish this situation to be used as an issue to generate publicity. The issue is clear neither Carla or her manager Arnold Vegafria asked for permission to shoot this movie with ER and as such are in breach of their signed contract. We have other contract stars who we have lent to other productions. In fact Marian Rivera is in Panday. She is also an exclusive star of Regal but all proper protocol was followed. Let us all respect each other so that we can work harmoniously to rebuild our industry.”

Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai Delas Alas

The box office comedy queen Ai-Ai Delas Alas speaks up during her interview with “SNN Showbiz News Ngayon” yesterday about her upcoming movie with the Prince of Comedy Vic Sotto. It will be a movie entry for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. It is also reported that the said movie will be under Star Cinema and M-Zet Productions.

“Dream come true, wish come true and answered prayer na makakasama ko na si Bossing (Sotto) finally sa isang movie. Sabi ko last year sana next year hindi naman na kami magkalaban. Sana magkakampi na kami,” she said

Ai-Ai stated that it has been her dream to work with Vic Sotto because she hasn’t work with him before.

“Oo, sobra kasi idol ko nga ‘yon. Nakakatawa kasama. Siyempre first time namin magtambal (sa movie), kailangan gawin namin lahat ng makakaya namin para maging part 2, part 3, part 4 ito,” she cracked.

She also promised the viewers that she and Vic will give their best in doing this movie and will definitely not fail their fans.

“More fun, lahat ng makakapagpasaya sa mga tao gagawin namin ni Bossing,” she said.

8 Official MMFF Entries revealed

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is celebrating its 36th-year of bringing high-quality and amazing films from different movie productions. This year, only eight films compete with each other for the annual MMFF awards and box-office ranking.

First on the list is Ai Ai De Las Alas’s Ang Tanging Ina Mo Rin (Last Na ‘To) under Star Cinema. It is directed by Wenn Deramas. Other cast includes Nikki Valdez, Eugene Domingo, Marvin Agustin, and much more. Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla and Vic Sotto joined forces in the movie Agimat ni Enteng that produced by GMA Films, M-Zet, APT, and Imus Productions. Cinemedia’s Dalaw, a horror-thriller film casts Kris Aquino and Diether Ocampo. A Maricel Soriano classic revives again in the movie Super Inday at ang Magic Bibe starring Jake Cuenca, Marian Rivera, Pokwang and John Lapuz. The longest movie series in the filmfest lives on entitled Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12 which features Andi Eigenmann, Shaina Magdayao, Rayver Cruz, and Carla Abellana. Comedy King Dolphy has two entries in the filmfest. First is Father Jejemon under RVQ Productions with Maja Salvador. And second is Rosario under Cine Mabuhay with Jennylyn Mercado and Sid Lucero. And last but not the least, Star Cinema’s 3D animation film RPG features voices of Aga Muhlach, Zaijan Jaranilla, Vhong Navarro and other stars.

When I looked at the official list of MMFF, I expect that the three films namely Ang Tanging Ina (Last Na ‘To), Agimat ni Enteng and Shake, Rattle, and Roll 12 will randomly compete on top three box-office slots in the filmfest. But, of course, the importance of this filmfest is the continuous success of Philippine movie industry in despite of several international films are premiering within the year.

Bong, Vic star in 2010 Metrofest pic

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

UntitledSen. Bong Revilla and Vic Sotto are finalizing negotiations for their first starrer together, to be titled Enteng Agimat, which is intended for the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival.

The movie is a potential blockbuster considering that Bong’s and Vic’s starrers, Ang Panday and Ang Darling Kong Aswang, finished No. l and No. 2 grossers in the 2009 Metro Filmfest. Bong initially planned to do another Panday for this year’s Metro Filmfest but he scrapped it due to lack of time.

He’s set to start campaigning for reelection and, he said, “Maraming requirements ang pelikula and we won’t be able to meet the Metro Filmfest playdate.” With his and Bong’s joint project (presumably under their own companies, Bong’s Imus Productions and Vic’s M-ZET Productions in association with OctoArts Films as he did with Darling), Vic must be putting on hold his plan to do another Enteng Kabisote also for the 2010 Metro Filmfest. Like Panday, the Enteng franchise is a consistent Metro Filmfest moneymaker.
