Jinkee at her best when she’s with Pacman

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent Edmund Silvestre (of The Filipino Reporter) said that he now knows why Jinkee Pacquiao needs to be at her best (i.e., hair, make-up, wardrobe, accessories) every time she accompanies her husband, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, in his travels abroad.

Said Edmud, “Whether she likes it or not, Jinkee shares the limelight with Pacman wherever he goes.”

The spotlight, for sure, will get even brighter at the Philippine Congress when Rep. and Mrs. Emmanuel Pacquiao become the powerhouse couple (Hollywood-style) alongside Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres and husband Richard Gomez, Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado and husband Sen. Bong Revilla, soon-to-be former Pres. and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and husband Mike Arroyo.

Continued Edmund, “At the Boxing Writers Association of America’s (BWAA) gala last June 4 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan where Manny was honored with twin prestigious awards — Fighter of the Year and Fighter of the Decade — we witnessed how Jinkee was also swarmed by thrilled fans seeking autographs and Kodak moments with her husband. Thank God, she’s a good sport and she seems to enjoy the adulation. Those who can’t get close to Manny like me — no thanks to his burly bodyguards and fanatic fans, hmmmp!!! — would turn to Jinkee. She would oblige with a warm smile.

“Okey lang naman, basta masaya lahat, okey lang,” Jinkee assured “Nandito naman tayo lahat to support Manny.”

Businessman and Pacman supporter Rolly Velasco (of NYC’s Your Family Auto Service Center, who paid the $200 gala ticket)) likened Jinkee to Jaclyn Jose upon seeing her walk into the ballroom like a breath of fresh air.

Consul General Cecilia Rebong, who was present at the gala, noted Jinkee’s “simple yet elegant” style.

Pacman discharged from Hospital

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

MANILA (AFP) – – World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao left hospital on Tuesday following treatment for an ulcer possibly brought on by his campaign for a seat in parliament.

Pacquiao, 31, who was taken to a hospital for stomach pains on Sunday, said he was suffering from an ulcer which may have been caused by irregular eating habits during his recent political campaign.

“I must be disciplined and not miss meals during the proper time,” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN television.

The 31-year-old fighter, who was elected on May 10 to represent the impoverished southern province of Sarangani, has been preparing to take up his post in the Philippine parliament.

Boxing promoters are also working to arrange a bout between Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather in November, to settle once and for all the fighters’ claim to be the best fighter, pound-for-pound, of their generation.

Asked about the fight, Pacquiao replied: “Wait to see if (the fight with) Mayweather will push through. It is hard to say. Mostly, we hear a lot of talking.”

Negotiations for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight fell through earlier this year when the American insisted on Olympic-style random drug testing, which the Filipino rejected as too intrusive before a bout.

Boxing victories as well as his commercial endorsements last year made Pacquiao the world’s sixth-highest paid athlete, with earnings of 40 million US dollars, according to Forbes magazine. (Read more on AFP and Yahoo! Philippines News)

Manny Offers Support For Noynoy!

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Manila Philippines –   Congressman-elect Manny Pacquiao paid a courtesy call to president-apparent Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III at his Times Street home on Tuesday, May 18.

Atty. Edwin Lacierda, Noynoy’s spokesperson, related on “TV Patrol World” on May 19 that presidential candidate Manny Villar’s poster boy and the Liberal Party standard bearer talked for almost an hour. With Manny were his wife Jinkee and some staff members. Vice-presidential bet Mar Roxas also joined their meeting and even asked for Manny’s autograph.

Aside from congratulating each other on their individual triumphs, Atty. Edwin shared that Manny also told Noynoy about his plans for Sarangani, the province he represents in the lower House.

“Forward-looking lahat ng pag-uusap,” quipped the spokesman.

The seven-division world champ also pledged his support for the Aquino administration.

“Nag-usap lang sila… and to assure him that he will have the support of Congressman Pacquiao in the House,” said Atty. Edwin.

Noynoy and Manny seemed to have buried the hatchet of the past election when their respective parties had a dramatic and dirty cockfight on national TV.

During the campaign period, People’s Champ had even seemingly taken a swipe at the solon in one of the Nacionalista Party frontrunner’s multitude of advertisements, attributing his incompetency to govern the country to his lackluster political record.

The said ad infuriated Noynoy’s youngest and most controversial sister, Kris Aquino, who indirectly addressed him on her Twitter account last month.

All’s well that ends well, though: Manny and Kris have patched things up.

“Kami nga ni Jinkee Pacquiao, okay na okay na ulit eh. Sinabi ko talaga sa kaniya, ‘Mare nagtampo ako sa asawa mo’. Pero okay na ngayon, love-love-love,” the Queen of All Media revealed on “Showbiz News Ngayon”’s May 18 episode.

In a separate interview on “24 Oras,” Atty. Edwin clarified that Manny has not yet exhibited signs that he is going back to the Liberal Party. The pound-per-pound king is under LP when he first ran for congressman of South Cotabato in 2007.

Pacquiao – Mayweather jr. Closer with Cotto’s Refusal

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

manny "pacman" pacquiao Last Tuesday May 19,2009, uerto Rican newspaper, Primera Hora, that he would not fight pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao at a weight below 145 pounds, a declaration that, if he sticks to it, seems to all but negate the possibility of the two men ever fighting each other.

Despite the public’s clamoring for Pacquiao to fight the returning Floyd Mayweather Jr. later this year, Bob Arum of Top Rank, who promotes both Pacquiao and Cotto, has been pushing this potential Pac Man/Cotto matchup in the press since Pacman defeated Ricky Hatton in two rounds earlier this month. The weight issue, though, looks to be a major stumbling block. Where Manny’s team was willing to take a gamble at 147 pounds to face the aging Oscar De La Hoya, now it insists Pacquiao stay in the 140-pound zone, especially if he is going to step in there with a welterweight monster like Cotto. Clearly, they feel that with Manny’s star power growing by the day, they have the juice to dictate the terms to anyone who wants to face the Pac Man Express.

One of Pacquiao’s advisers, Michael Koncz, said as much recently to The Philippine Star: “It’s really up to Manny at what weight he’d like to fight Cotto, if at all … Manny might want to bring it down to 142 … This fight would mean more to Cotto than to Manny. If a limit of 142 is agreed, let Cotto struggle to make weight, not Manny.”

Aling Dionisia to quit showbiz because of intrigues

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

aling-dionisiaAling Dionisia, who is considered as one of the Philippines most famous mother celebrity today, is our pambansang kamao’s mother. She is being intrigued to have a romantic involvement with her dance instructor. That is one of the reasons why she wants to quit showbiz. She celebrated her 60th birthday last week and it was a star-studded one. And as she says, it was a dream come true for her. All of what she has right now is because of her son Manny, who is the World Boxing Champion.

Pambansang Kamao: Manny Pacquiao

Pambansang Kamao: Manny Pacquiao

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao of Sarangani!

That was how Pacman, the Pambansang Kamao no less, was introduced in Las Vegas last May 2 during his title bout with Ricky Hatton whom he knocked out not once, not twice, but thrice in the first two rounds, making him the greatest boxer of (perhaps) all time after also scoring wins in several other divisions.

And that’s how Pacman prefers to be identified now that he is determined to venture into another ring — the political ring. In 2007, he ran for Congressman in his native GenSan and lost to Darlene Custodio, Ang Dating Kampeon. In 2010, Pacman is deadset on running again for the same position, this time in Sarangani, never mind if well-meaning fans and admirers are advising him against it because they’d rather see him where he should be — in boxing, whether in action or, eventually, as trainer of would-be champs — and not somewhere else. Read more…

It’s really hard to become Manny Pacquiao. He can’t even go to malls because of his popularity. Even if you are part of his family.
