Megan Young slap Vilma Santos?

Friday, July 24th, 2009

“Hindi niya ako nasampal. Si Megan talagang hinihinmegan-and-vilmatay ni Direk Laurice talaga. Ang tagal. Hindi niya ako masampal hanggang sa na ni Direk. And then yun nga tinanong siya, ‘Bakit hindi mo sinampal?’ Hindi niya magawa, yung ganon ba,” Ms. Vilma Santos began. Megan was too intimidated to carry out a scene where she had to slap Ms. Vilma Santos during an acting workshop. It is a scene being played out for the first part of Ate Vi’s TV special A Woman for All Season at ABS-CBN.
Ms. Vilma said that she understand where Megan is coming from. She related her personal experience about feeling inadequate when she did the movie Modelong Tanso with the late Charito Solis in the year 1979.  “Ako ang naintimidate noon. Naranasan ko yun noong araw kay Ms. Charito Solis na ngayon parang yun naman ang nangyayari sa akin. So tinuro ko sa kanila na kahit may ka-eksena kayo na senior stars, kapag sinabi ng direktor ni’yo na kailangan niyong sampalin/sigawan sila, wala kayong choice. Gawin ni’yo yun, kahit sabihin niyong senior or respected star man yun, hindi kayo pwedeng magpa-intimidate. Kasi lahat sila kinakabahan lalo na nung pinapasampal ako kay Megan.” she stated.

Ms. Vilma believed that staging a master class for Kapamilya young stars proved to be an effective and extraordinary experience to her. “They’re good. Kaya lang sila nahirapan meron silang ginaya. Ginaya nila yung Broken Marriage at Dolzura Cortez pero kung binigyan mo sila ng sarili nilang eksena I am sure mas mapagbubutihan nila. Kaya lang ito hindi talaga madaling manggaya, but they’re good,” she reiterated.

It is a great and unforgetable experience to both Kapamilya young stars and Ms. Vilma Santos. They will learn much about that experience, specially to the young stars of ABS-CBN. They were lucky because they have that kind of experience specially Megan Young. Even though she didn’t do what Direk Laurice said to slap Ms. Vilma, I think she didn’t do that because she had respect to the senior actress. As a whole, the young stars did very well, and they impress Ms. Vilma Santos.

Luis Manzano

Like any budding young actor, there was a phase in Luis Manzano’s showbiz career that he shunned gay roles. Either because he didn’t know what it will bring to his career or he wasn’t ready. But with his acceptance of his first gay character in Star Cinema’s “In My Life” opposite his mother, multi-awarded actress Vilma Santos, the answers to such fears will finally be answered.

I think it’s really difficult to have a gay role in a movie, specially if it’s the first time. I think Luis did well in their movie with his mom and John Lloyd. Lot of his fans are waiting to see their upcoming movie.

'In My Life' Casts & Crew

Star Cinema's "In My Life" Cast & Crew in Time Square

NEW YORK–April 21 had a cold night, but the cast and crew of Star Cinema’s “In My Life” braved the chilly weather to shoot two important scenes featuring Vilma Santos and John Lloyd Cruz At Times Square. Besides, it is hard (not to mention, expensive) to get a permit to shoot in this highly secured area – so there really was no choice but to proceed. The good thing is, since it was bitter cold and a weekday night, the crowds were much less than usual, consequently allowing direk Olive Lamasan to accomplish her long tracking shots of Vi and Lloydie almost uninterrupted. I think the movie “In My Life” have a beautiful story and sceneries. Almost all the scenes were shooted in US and maybe when we watch it, it almost like that we are having a tour in US.

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

sharon cunetaAs early as now, politicos have been announcing their plans to run for public office in the coming 2010 National Elections. One man that has been consistently asked about his 2010 plans is Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. At the April 27 press conference of her movie Best Friends Forever, Senator Kiko’s wife, Sharon Cuneta was asked if the Senator would be running for Vice President in the coming election. “Yes. Vilma & John Lloyd: Breakfast in Brooklyn

John Lloyd Cruz & Vilma Santos

John Lloyd Cruz & Vilma Santos

NEW YORK–Here are some photos from the second-day shoot of “In My Life,” which I was able to cover. In this scene, Noel (John Lloyd Cruz) eagerly shows his “mother-in-law” Shirley (Vilma Santos) around Brooklyn, New York, where he and her son Mark (Luis Manzano) live as a gay couple. Shirley just arrived in New York to visit Mark. But Luis is “busy” with work. There is a plotline here that I cannot reveal so as not to spoil the story. So Noel is forced to spend time with his uptight “mother-in-law.”

He introduces her to the breakfast habit of native New Yorkers – freshly baked bagels! The uptight Shirley doubts that she will like the taste of bagels, a cute getting-to-know-you scene between them. Vilma, of course, is Luis’ mom in real life. Did she have bagel? Did she like it? Well, this is a delightful, amusing scene that should be seen on the screen. But the breakfast did not cause Shirley to warm up to Noel. No, not yet anyway. Read more…

I watched the news regarding this movie and the first plan was Edu Manzano will do the ex-husband and father cameo role.  But  he did not accept it so Tirso Cruz III will play the role.
