P127-M Copyright Case against Willie Revillame

ABS-CBN network has filed a copyright infringement case against the estranged talent Willie Revillame, his company Wil Productions, Inc., and the president of his new home network, TV5′s Ray Espinosa.

The network signed the complaint at the Makati Regional Trial Court last November 24, stating that the parties in question “deliberately and intentionally imitated ‘Wowowee,’” a top-rating noontime show which Revillame previously hosted on ABS-CBN, thereby violating section 172.2 of the Intellectual Property Code.

The format of the new show Willing Willie is disturbingly of the same format that of the previous show Wowowee. Even their production numbers, games like Big Time Ka and Willtime Bigtime, the lighting, camera angles, studio audience seat layout and down to the stage and set design are all strikingly similar to Wowowee, thus “stealing” the goodwill that Wowowee has built over the past 5 years of airing in ABS-CBN.

A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the airing of Willing Willie is now being asked from the court. Previous TROs we’re dismissed by the Quezon City Regional Trail Court, under the sala of Judge Luisito Cortez, as well as the Court of Appeals. The network is hoping that this time, the TRO will be filed successfully.

MANILA, Philippines – Action star Robin Padilla defended Luis Manzano, John Lloyd Cruz and Billy Crawford, collectively known as “Kanto Boys,” from criticisms that surfaced after they replaced the action star on “Wowowee.”

Critics said Padilla was a better host compared to Manzano, Cruz and Crawford.

Padilla said he should not be compared to the three young guest hosts, noting that they have different styles of hosting.

“Ako ay matanda, ang mga ‘Kanto Boys‘ ay mga bata. Talagang magkaiba po ‘yon. Kaya kung ikukumpara nila ang ‘Kanto Boys’ sa akin ay huwag po sana dahil magkaiba po talaga kami ng style,” Padilla said.

Padilla, who was also criticized while hosting “Wowowee,” appealed to all televiewers to accept “Kanto Boys” the way they accepted him when he was the guest host of the hit afternoon program.

The action star hosted “Wowowee” for 2 weeks only. In his previous interview, Padilla said he was open to hosting “Wowowee” permanently.

Padilla, who is now preparing for his 2 films, admitted that he already missed the show, particularly its female hosts.

“Ayoko lang po kasi na masabi ng tao na ako po ay nang-agaw. Gusto ko lang po talaga ay isang malinaw na usapan,” Padilla said.

Mariel-Zanjoe break-up

A now single Padilla also distanced himself from Mariel Rodriguez and Zanjoe Marudo’s break up.

Padilla, who is being romantically linked to Rodriguez, said he is in no position to comment on the issue. He also hoped that Rodriguez and Marudo would be able to iron things out.

Padilla has repeatedly denied that he is courting Rodriguez. “’Yon po ay sa apat na sulok lang po ng ‘Wowowee.’” -Report by Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com

Aga Muhlach, with Hectic Sked says, ‘No’ to Wowowee!

MANILA, Philippines – Aga Muhlach has turned down an offer from ABS-CBN to be a guest host of “Wowowee” due to his hectic schedule, his wife said.

Actress Charlene Gonzales, a former beauty queen and a new endorser of a beauty product, disclosed that Muhlach is slated to make 2 movies and a television show.

Gonzales said her husband will work with Regine Velasquez and Angel Locsin in separate movies, and the filming for both projects might start this year.

Also, Muhlach has to prepare for his upcoming TV project with ace comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas, according to Gonzales.

Aside from his hectic schedule, Gonzales also pointed out that Muhlach took into consideration his friendship with Willie Revillame.

Revillame went on “indefinite break” from “Wowowee” after crying foul over purported constant attacks from fellow Kapamilya talent Jobert Sucaldito.

Revillame has asked the management of ABS-CBN to release him from his contract. During their meeting, however, both parties agreed that the controversial TV host would instead take an indefinite break as they “discuss what will be in the best interest of the viewing public.”

Willie Revillame apologizes to ABS-CBN

In a private meeting yesterday May 24, Willie Revillame apologized to ABS-CBN management for his outburst on Wowowee last May 4. In that particular episode, Willie had threatened to resign if ABS-CBN did not give in to his demand that radio commentator and The Buzz co-host Jobert Sucaldito be fired for airing negative comments about Wowowee over the latter’s radio program. Willie has since been on leave from the leading noontime show.

In an official statement, ABS-CBN has expressed its acceptance of Willie’s apology. The network also announced that Willie will continue to be on indefinite leave but will remain under contract with the Kapamilya network. (Willie’s contract is valid until 2011.)

ABS-CBN also revealed that there will be further discussions with Willie about his work with the network as well as the future of Wowowee.

Jobert Sucaldito: I respect ABS-CBN’s decision on Willie

MANILA, Philippines – Entertainment columnist and host Jobert Sucaldito said Tuesday he respects the decision reached by the management of ABS-CBN and Willie Revillame after their closed-door meeting Monday.

“Ako kasi ang laging posisyon ko dito is that whatever ang maging desisyon ng management, we will have to respect it kasi they know better,” Sucaldito said.

Sucaldito’s alleged constant criticisms were the source of Revillame’s latest ire that led to the controversial “Wowowee” host resigning from the program.

In their Monday meeting, Revillame apologized to the ABS-CBN management for his on-air outburst on May 4 over his rift with Sucaldito.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by ABS-CBN, Revillame also apologized for his failure to report to work since May 5. In turn, ABS-CBN management accepted Revillame’s apology.

Both parties also agreed that Revillame would take an indefinite break effective immediately, but his contract obligations with ABS-CBN will hold. This disallows him to perform similar work for any person or entity in direct competition with ABS-CBN.

The statement said that at some point, ABS-CBN management and Revillame will discuss what will be in the best interest of the viewing public.

ABS-CBN News asked Revillame for an interview, but the host declined.

Robin Padilla has temporarily replaced Revillame, but he is set to step down as host on Friday. When sought for reaction, Padilla said: “Tayo po ay nandito para huwag pong maapektuhan [ang saya] na dinudulot ng ‘Wowowee.’”

On Tuesday, Cesar Montano told abs-cbnNEWS.com that he has received an offer to host “Wowowee” for 2 weeks, similar to Padilla’s stint. ABS-CBN, however, has not made a final decision on whether Montano would take over as host.
